    Abstract: Systems and methods for communicating presence information are provided. A communication station establishes a persistent connection with a proxy server and a temporary connection with a presence server. The temporary connection is established independent of the proxy server. The communication station provides and obtains presence information directly from the presence server over the temporary connection. After providing or obtaining information, the communication station terminates the temporary connection, while still maintaining the persistent connection with the proxy server.
