  • Patent number: 9462664
Abstract: A gestural control dimmer switch for controlling the illumination level of a light using hand movements includes a dimmer panel having a continuum of positions associated with a spectrum of illumination levels of the light. Hand position sensors produce a hand position detection field in front of the continuum of positions of the dimmer panel through which a hand can be passed. No dimming input is produced by a hand passing through the hand position detection field until the hand passing through the detection field reaches a set trigger position at one of the continuum of positions along the dimmer panel. A dimming input is only produced in response to changes in hand position in the hand position detection field after the hand reaches the trigger position. A new trigger position is set after the illumination level of the light controlled by the dimmer switch is adjusted.

  • Patent number: 9115880
Abstract: A luminaire, such as a ceiling suspended luminaire, that can change its shape or some other state or characteristic based on user-input. The changes of shape or other state or characteristic can be achieved by hand gestures, such as moving the hand up and down in the detection field of a sensor. In one aspect of the invention, a suspended luminaire having a flexible sheet form is provided. The shape or attitude of the sheet form luminaire can be changed by exerting a force on one or more attachment points on the luminaire.

  • Patent number: 9119239
Abstract: A gestural control dimmer switch for controlling the illumination level of a light using hand movements comprises a dimmer panel in operative communication with a light, the dimmer panel having a plurality of hand position sensors corresponding to a spectrum of illumination levels of the light, wherein when a hand is detected by the hand position sensors the illumination level of the light is set until the hand reaches a dimmer trigger position when the switch enters a dimming mode during which the illumination level is adjusted to the illumination level corresponding to the hand position sensor the presence of the hand is detected until a release condition is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 9062841
Abstract: A lighting system having neural hubs that connect to other neural hubs in a manner that allows a lighting system to be configured in a two dimensional pattern that can propagate out from a single neural hub. Straight sections can be provided for use in connection with the neural hubs to enhance the configurability of the lighting system.

  • Patent number: 9062836
Abstract: A cassette includes a substantially planar base plate having a first or bottom side and a second or top side. A slide channel capture ring or other retention structure is provided on the first side of the base plate for releasably retaining a planar light source to this side of the base plate. Another slide pocket, or other slide-in retention structure is provided on the second side of the base plate for coupling the cassette to a connector structure.

  • Publication number: 20130297251
Abstract: A system and method for determining the position of an object in a space includes positioning the object within the overlapping detection fields of a plurality of analog proximity sensors, wherein the proximity sensors produce an output signal having a signal strength related to the proximity of the object to the sensors. The strength of the output signal produced by each analog proximity sensor can be detected and a position for the object established based on the relative signal strengths produced by the proximity sensors. The system and method have particular application with devices for gestural control, for example gestural controlled dimmer switches, where some data manipulation is required to generate high-resolution positional data to activate the device.

  • Publication number: 20120294016
Abstract: A loadable cassette 111, 113, 325 operatively holds a planar light source, such as an OLED panel, to a structure that is part of a luminaire or lighting system. The cassette includes a substantially planar base plate 127, 327 having a first or bottom side 129, 327 and a second or top side 131, 329. A slide channel 147, capture ring 339 or other retention means is provided on the first side of said base plate for releasably retaining a planar light source to this side of the base plate. Another slide pocket 175, 361, or other retention means is provided on the second side of said base plate for receiving and holding the cassette to a connector structure which can be part of a luminaire or lighting system, or which can be an adaptor structure for making a mechanical connection to the luminaire or lighting system.
