  • Publication number: 20140258902
Abstract: Methods and systems involving navigation of a graphical interface are disclosed herein. An example system may be configured to: (a) cause a head-mounted display (HMD) to provide a graphical interface, the graphical interface comprising (i) a view port having a view-port orientation and (ii) at least one navigable area having at least one border, the at least one border having a first border orientation; (b) receive input data that indicates movement of the view port towards the at least one border; (c) determine that the view-port orientation is within a predetermined threshold distance from the first border orientation; and (d) based on at least the determination that the view-port orientation is within a predetermined threshold distance from the first border orientation, adjust the first border orientation from the first border orientation to a second border orientation.

  • Publication number: 20140199719
Abstract: Devices and methods are provided for measuring, on a digital microfluidic platform, electrical signals associated with the impedance of adherent cells. In one embodiment, a sub-droplet of cell culture media containing adherent cells is passively dispensed at a pre-selected electrode location where a local hydrophilic surface region is provided, and adherent cells are attached to the local hydrophilic surface region. The cell culture media sub-droplet is replaced with a sub-droplet of a low-conductivity medium in a passive dispensing step, retaining the attached adherent cells. An AC voltage with a suitable frequency is applied between electrodes of the device and a signal associated with the impedance of the adherent cells is obtained. One of the electrodes to which the AC voltage is applied may be a dedicated sensing electrode. The local thickness of a dielectric layer coating the pre-selected electrode may be reduced to increase the detection sensitivity of the device.

  • Patent number: 8751538
Abstract: A mechanism for providing panel-based management of data. In accordance with instructions on a machine-readable medium, a computing system receives data objects from various sources such as various user devices and application servers. Further, the computing system causes a device to display a graphical user interface through which a user can define panels that will be associated with various received data objects, so as to define a record, by time or subject matter, of relevant data objects. Further, the computing system allows a user to readily switch from display of one panel to display of another panel, so as to assist the user with multi-tasking and associated context switching.

  • Patent number: 8558759
Abstract: In accordance with example embodiments, hand gestures can be used to provide user input to a wearable computing device, and in particular to identify, signify, or otherwise indicate what may be considered or classified as important or worthy of attention or notice. A wearable computing device, which could include a head-mounted display (HMD) and a video camera, may recognize known hand gestures and carry out particular actions in response. Particular hand gestures could be used for selecting portions of a field of view of the HMD, and generating images from the selected portions. The HMD could then transmit the generated images to one or more applications in a network server communicatively connected with the HMD, including a server or server system hosting a social networking service.

  • Patent number: 8519909
Abstract: Exemplary methods and systems relate to a multimode input field for a head-mountable display (HMD). An exemplary multimode input field is operable to display content based on a number of modalities of input data, which may be received from a number of different input sources. Further, the input sources and/or content for the multimode input field may be selected based on implicit information in input data from the input sources, explicit instructions, and/or context information.

  • Publication number: 20130117707
Abstract: Methods and devices for providing a user-interface are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed comprising receiving data corresponding to a first position of a wearable computing device and responsively causing the wearable computing device to provide a user-interface comprising a view region and a menu. The method further comprises receiving movement data corresponding to a movement of the wearable computing device from the first position to a second position and, based on the movement data, making a first determination that the movement has a first angular velocity along a first direction. The method further includes making a second determination that the first angular velocity exceeds a first threshold angular velocity and, responsive to the first and second determinations, causing the wearable computing device to move the menu in a direction opposite the first direction such that the menu becomes more visible in the view region.

  • Publication number: 20120030013
Abstract: Techniques are provided to allow users to access interested information without performing engaging searches. A content-providing system may track collective interests of a large set of users and/or individual interests of a user. User-selectable items may be presented to the user directly without the user performing searches. Some of the user-selectable items may be associated with slideshows that are, for example, pre-deposited or curated to provide interesting information relating to these user-selectable items. The user may easily access a slideshow and the content therein using easily comprehensible controls presented on a display page.
