    Abstract: Techniques are provided for a hazard detection device for use with a mobile device. The hazard detection device includes a body configured to detachably couple with the mobile device, a remote sensing system comprising one or more sensors disposed on an exterior surface of the body and positioned such that the one or more sensors face away from a user using the mobile device when the body is coupled with the mobile device, a wireless communication component configured to communicate with the mobile device, a battery configured to power the remote sensing system and the wireless communication component, and a control module configured to receive an activation signal from the mobile device, activate the remote sensing system to collect remote sensing data from the one or more sensors of the remote sensing system in response to the activation signal, and transmit the remote sensing data to the mobile device.
