  • Patent number: 4099197
Abstract: An input structure for a charge coupled device (CCD) which develops a charge proportional to a signal in one channel, and the complement of that charge in a second channel. The dual channel CCD can be used in transversal filter applications without the need for a differential amplifier at its output.

    Assignee: Northern Telecom Limited
Inventors: Abd-El-Fattah Ali Ibrahim, Carl Neil Berglund
  • Patent number: 4086609
Abstract: A charge transfer device in which reduced capacitive loading is obtained by utilizing a double split electrode (as opposed to the conventional single split electrode). Charge transferred beneath the double split electrode is differentially sensed by two of the segments. The portion of the total charge beneath the third segment is simultaneously transferred along so as to retain a uniform charge density beneath the electrode as a whole. This device is particularly adapted for transversal filter applications where the differential sensing is relatively small for a large proportion of the electrodes.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 25, 1978
    Assignee: Northern Telecom Limited
Inventors: Thomas George Foxall, Abd-El-Fattah Ali Ibrahim, Lester Porter Sellars
  • Patent number: 3987475
Abstract: A region of opposite conductivity is diffused into the substrate of a charge coupled device adjacent the edge of one of its storage electrodes and the following transfer electrode to provide an improved structure for nondestructively sensing mobile charges being transferred along the device. With this arrangement there is less capacitive coupling between the region and the electrodes and less disruption of the CCD channel which results in a much reduced perturbation of the mobile charges.
