  • Publication number: 20100088781
Abstract: A method for altering the level of one or more carotenoids in a plant or a tissue within the plant is provided. Method comprises introducing a nucleic acid sequence comprising a regulatory region operatively associated with a silencing nucleotide sequence that reduces or eliminates the expression of a lycopene epsilon cyclase into the plant, and expressing the silencing nucleotide sequence. Expression of the sequence reduces the level of the lycopene epsilon cyclase in the plant or within a tissue of the plant, and results in altering one or more carotenoids.

  • Patent number: 7582807
Abstract: The invention provides a method to regulate expression of a gene of interest in a plant comprising, introducing into the plant a first nucleotide sequence comprising, the gene of interest operatively linked to a first regulatory region, and an operator sequence capable of binding a fusion protein, and a second nucleotide sequence comprising a second regulatory region in operative association with a nucleotide sequence encoding the fusion protein. The fusion protein comprising, a DNA binding protein, or a portion thereof, capable of binding the operator sequence, and a recruitment factor protein, or a portion thereof, capable of binding a chromatin remodelling protein. In this manner, expression of the second nucleotide sequence produces the fusion protein that regulates expression of the gene of interest.

  • Patent number: 7521595
Abstract: The invention provides a method for selectively controlling the transcription of a gene of interest, comprising producing one or more plants that express either a first, a second, or both the first and second genetic constructs. The first genetic construct comprises a first regulatory region operatively linked to a gene of interest and at least one repressor sequence capable of controlling the activity of the first regulatory region. The second genetic construct comprises a second regulatory region in operative association with a nucleic acid molecule, or a derivative thereof, encoding a repressor protein, the repressor protein exhibiting both repressor operator sequence binding activity and repressor activity.

  • Publication number: 20070174933
Abstract: A method for reducing the level of one or more than one protein in a plant or a tissue within the plant, and plants with reduced levels of target proteins are provided. The method involves introducing a nucleic acid sequence into the plant, where the nucleic acid sequence comprises a regulatory region operatively associated with a silencing nucleotide sequence. The expression of the silencing nucleotide sequence reduces or eliminates the expression of two or more than two enzymes involved in the synthesis of the one or more than one protein. The reduced level of the one or more than one protein may be determine by comparing the level of the one or more than one protein in the plant, or a tissue of the plant, with a level of the one ore more than one protein in a second plant, or the tissue from the second plant, that does not express the nucleic acid sequence.
