  • Publication number: 20130331963
Abstract: Systems, methods, and software for determining and visualizing reliability data for industrial automation equipment are provided herein. In one example, a non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon program instructions executable by a computing device is presented. When executed by the computing device, the program instructions direct the computing device to present a graphical user interface to receive a user selection for at least one operating parameter for the industrial automation device and identify a modified load profile based on at least a base load profile and the at least one operating parameter for the industrial automation device. The program instructions further direct the computing device to generate reliability information for the industrial automation device based on the modified load profile, and present an indication of the reliability information via the graphical user interface.

  • Publication number: 20130273786
Abstract: A power stab fork system is provided for power stab systems. The system comprises stab forks made of a steel layer bonded to a layer of highly conductive material such that the highly conductive material effectively conducts power with stabs while the steel layer keeps the stab fork in robust contact with the stab because of its stronger material properties. The stab forks may comprise a plurality of fingers for making independent contacts points onto a stab. Some embodiments included stab forks with one forked end, two forked ends, straight fingers, curved fingers, separated stab forks, conjoined stab forks, and so forth.

  • Patent number: 8289680
Abstract: Embodiment relate to an extruded high power electrical distribution. The bus can be employed in a MCC, a drive cabinet, or any such electrical enclosure to facilitate transmission of power. A body of the bus includes an elongate metal extrusion with first and second ridges extending along a length of the body from opposite edges of the body. Further, the bus includes a first groove and a second groove extending along the length of the body and into the body from a face of the body such that each of the first and second grooves comprises a cross-section having a narrow passage extending from the face into a broader cavity within the body. Additionally, the bus includes machined openings into each groove, wherein each of the machined openings is wider than the width of the corresponding groove to which it provides access.

  • Publication number: 20120075901
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide novel techniques for cooling power conversion circuitry. In particular, a geothermal conditioning system may be used that includes a ground loop heat exchanger. The ground loop heat exchanger may pump heat from the power conversion circuitry into the ground in order to cool the power conversion circuitry. The ground loop heat exchanger may also extract heat from the ground and direct the heat into the power conversion circuitry in order to heat the power conversion circuitry. The geothermal conditioning system may also include a surface loop heat exchanger and combine the cooling and heating abilities of both the ground loop and surface loop heat exchangers in order to improve energy efficiency.

  • Publication number: 20110038122
Abstract: Power electronic devices are solder to a phase change heat spreader using an energetic multilayer foil. This foil may be sandwiched between layers of solder, the first layer in contact with the power electronic devices and the second layer in contact with the phase change heat spreader. When activated, this foil may induce the solder to physically and thermally bond the power electronic devices to the phase change heat spreader. Certain embodiments may also employ energetic multilayer foil to thermally bond the phase change heat spreader to a heat dissipation structure. Other embodiments may employ a phase change heat spreader with an integrated heat dissipation structure. In addition, some embodiments may employ a heat sink as the heat dissipation structure, while other embodiments employ a liquid cooling system.

  • Publication number: 20080266801
Abstract: A power electronic module is cooled by a phase change heat spreader or cooling device. The module may include switched or unswitched devices, such as power transistors, diodes, and so forth, forming circuits such as rectifiers, inverters, converters, or the like, or portions of such circuits. Heat is transferred to the heat spreader in which a continuous phase change cycle takes place to cool the circuit components. The heat spreader may extend over an area sufficient to reduce the temperature of the components, and ultimately will render portions of the overall structure more isothermal.
