  • Publication number: 20100011383
Abstract: A method for handling file operations in switch stacking is described. Plurality of switches connected in switch stack is managed by master switch. When user configurations are stored in master switch also transferred to other stack members for redundancy. This invention discloses a method using a stack file module to handle the file update to remote stack members. The stack file module uses Remote Procedure Call (RPC) mechanism to access remote stack member file system. The stack file module also uses a buffering mechanism and error prediction mechanism for performance benefits. The stack file module also adjusts the size of the buffer based on the amount and frequency of data written to remote stack members.

  • Patent number: 6975647
Abstract: A method and system is presented for the bi-directional transfer of data packets over a TCP communications system that can comprise both terrestrial and satellite links, using an enhanced flight protocol that, transparently to the end users, replaces the TCP over the congested satellite link portion of the system that accelerates the data delivery between end users and improves reliability of the data packet transmission. The invention eliminates the conventional TCP 3-way handshake and other associated time-delay procedures and replaces them with an improved use of performance enhancing proxies at either end of the satellite link that use a unique acknowledgement methods, data buffer storage and packet header field arrangement among the design features of a flight protocol method and system that accelerates data packet transfer with more efficient link capacity use and greater data throughput.

  • Patent number: 6868690
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for extracting freshwater from atmospheric humidity in extremely hot and humid climates and supplying freshwater to a small group of people, a building, a farm, or forestation area. The freshwater is treated to provide drinking water by disinfecting to eliminate microorganisms and filtration to remove suspended particulates from air, erosion or corrosion products, and disinfected waste. Compact units provide drinking water for individuals, passengers in cars, vans, trucks, or recreational boats, or crewmembers on a seagoing cargo ship whether from atmospheric humidity or from moisture-laden gases. Furthermore, systems are disclosed for the ample supply of freshwater with minimal treatment for small- to large-sized buildings in a manner that alleviates the heat load on buildings. Collection of freshwater from hot humid ambient air is also provided for other uses, such as irrigation and farm animal drinking.

  • Patent number: 6684648
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for extraction of freshwater from ambient air in regions of extremely hot and humid climates, for supply of drinking water and freshwater for small to large groups of people in remote and isolated areas or wherever freshwater resources are not conveniently accessible. Compact mobile units are disclosed to provide freshwater and drinking water for resort areas, to passengers on land and sea vehicles, in situations of emergency, and to areas of water shortage. The art of adaptation of commercial dehumidification units is taught in design and construction of apparatus for production of freshwater and drinking water. Preparation of drinking water included ultraviolet disinfection, ozone treatment, and/or chlorine addition; activated carbon and ion exchange filters; and adding of fluorine, air/oxygen to refresh the water storage units, and minerals for taste and health provisions.

  • Publication number: 20030131079
Abstract: Methods and systems are described that may be used in the context of a Performance Enhancing Proxy architecture for Internet traffic. A method of accelerated connection opening with error handling is disclosed. Also, a method of handling the Path MTU Discovery mechanism in the context of a distributed connection splitting PEP is described. A novel packet format for a proprietary inter-PEP protocol is described which allows for low packet header overhead. A new acknowledgement scheme that adapts to packet loss conditions to minimize bandwidth consumption by selecting an acknowledgement type from several possibilities is also detailed. A method whereby potentially spurious retransmissions are minimized by timing every transmission and retransmission is also described.

  • Publication number: 20030123394
Abstract: The invention provides a method and system for dealing with the flow of data between one Performance Enhancement Proxy and another in the context of split links for TCP over satellite performance improvement. The environment according to the invention may include one or more intermediate nodes experiencing variable latency and bandwidth allocations. The method and system manage the data flow to ensure bandwidth fairness between competing TCP/IP connections, prevention of PEP receiver buffer overflow and near 100% usage of the available satellite bandwidth without the need for conventional TCP/IP ACK driven probing algorithms. The near 100% usage of capacity being achieved, in part, through PEP to intermediate node message exchange.

  • Patent number: 4886506
Abstract: A catheter includes a catheter tube extending to a distal end portion that terminates at a terminal end of the catheter tube, the distal end portion including a tapered portion extending between the terminal end and a transition region on the distal end portion set back slightly from the terminal end. The tapered portion has a cross sectional area that decreases toward the terminal end to define a frustoconically-shaped outer surface extending from the transition region to the terminal end on which a soft tip member is mounted. The tip member has a size and shape adapted to be placed over the tapered portion coaxially, and a composition softer than that of the distal end portion that is suitable for bonding to the frustoconically-shaped outer surface.
