  • Publication number: 20210238012
Abstract: In a handrail including a carcass, a stretch inhibitor within the carcass, and a sliding layer bonded to the carcass, at least a portion of the carcass has a gas phase dispersed in a solid polymer matrix. The gas phase can reduce a density of the carcass by at least 5% or 10%, or about 15%, as compared to a density of the polymer matrix. The carcass can have a generally uniform distribution of gas bubbles in the polymer matrix, which can define a generally closed cell structure in the polymer matrix. The gas phase can be formed of particles of a syntactic foam dispersed in the polymer matrix. The handrail can further include a cover. The carcass and the cover can be formed of thermoplastic materials, and the cover can represent between 10 and 30% of the overall TPU required for the handrail.

  • Publication number: 20210197691
Abstract: There is disclosed an electrical device including a battery, and a battery management system. The battery management system includes a controller in electrical communication with a pressure sensor to monitor the state of health of the battery. The controller applies a method for determining the state of health that uses a non-electrical (mechanical) signal of force measurements combined with incremental capacity analysis to estimate the capacity fading and other health indicators of the battery with better precision than existing methods. The pressure sensor may provide the force measurement signal to the controller, which may determine which incremental capacity curve based on force to use for the particular battery. The controller then executes a program utilizing the data from the pressure sensor and the stored incremental capacity curves based on force to estimate the capacity fading and signal a user with the state of health percentage.

  • Publication number: 20210072281
Abstract: This invention relates to a methodology for detection and isolating in real time blocked pressure ports (outer & inner ports) and/or faulty pressure measurements in Flush Air Data Systems (FADS). Pressure ports lie along the periphery of the outer and inner circle while the inner most pressure port is located at the centre of the nose cap. The max. pressure difference that can occur between two adjacent ports for different flight conditions of Mach number, angle of attack and side slip angle is established initially through extensive simulations. During flight, each pressure port reading is compared against predefined thresholds with its nearest two neighbours in the corresponding circle. The faulty port pair is further isolated by detecting significant changes than normally expected over a time period of one minor cycle computation time of the processor. Two sets of thresholds are used, for Mach>1 and Mach<1.

  • Publication number: 20200188952
Abstract: A biocompatible polymer hybrid nanocomposite coating on a surface of a substrate, such as titanium and its alloys. The coating can be achieved by an electrostatic spray coating, preferably using ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) as a matrix for the coating. For example, up to 2.95 wt. % carbon nanotubes can be used as reinforcement, as can up to 4.95 wt. % hydroxyapatite. A dispersion of CNTs and HA in the coating is substantially uniform. The tribological performance of such coatings include high hardness, improved scratch resistance, excellent wear resistance, and corrosion resistance compared to pure UHMWPE coatings.

  • Patent number: 9734644
Abstract: A security system permits limited access into a building for authorized visitors. The security system includes an access interface pad installable at a building entryway and a camera device releasably secured to the access interface pad with an anchor. The anchor allows the camera device to detach from the access interface pad in response building access being authorized by the security system so that an authorized visitor can wear the camera device while in the secured building. The security system can both communicate with a remote device so that data captured by the camera can be transmitted to a user in real time and automatically analyze information from the camera with respect to certain security parameters.
