  • Patent number: 10734821
Abstract: An example method includes monitoring a state of charge of one or more energy storage devices that are part of an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) that is connected electrically to a power distribution grid; obtaining information that is based, at least in part, on a voltage on the power distribution grid; and outputting a control signal that is based on the state of charge and the information. The control signal is for controlling power electronics either to output voltage from the one or more energy storage devices to the power distribution grid or to charge the one or more energy storage devices using voltage from the power distribution grid.

  • Publication number: 20190277252
Abstract: A vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) system includes a pillar having a vertical rotational axis, a plurality of blades connected to the pillar, each of the plurality of blades comprising a plurality of flaps that open or close in response to a wind direction, and a control system configured to control the extent of opening and closing of the flaps based on the wind direction and wind intensity. A method for maximizing energy harvesting in a VAWT includes providing a pillar having a vertical rotational axis, connecting a plurality of blades to the pillar, each of the plurality of blades comprising a plurality of flaps that open or close in response to a wind direction, and connecting a control system to the plurality of blades, the control system configured to control the extent of opening and closing of the flaps based on the wind direction and wind intensity.
