  • Patent number: 8429221
Abstract: A method of redirecting content requests among content distribution network peers. In operation, a client sends a request for content to a content distribution network (CDN). When this CDN does not currently have the capacity to deliver the content, the CDN refers to one or more content distribution tables to see if the neighbor peers are able to provide this content. The content distribution table is populated at the time of distribution of the content. When the neighbor peer has this content, the request is redirected to the neighbor peer. In redirecting request, an address of the neighbor peer is appending to the previous address such that each peer receiving the request knows where the request came from and where it has been previously.

Abstract: A multi-staged services policer implements multiple policies, at an edge device of network, on the data traffic of a single customer. In such a multi-staged services policer, services policers in a given stage may receive information from policers in subsequent stages. This information may be used when policing in the given stage.

  • Patent number: 7610332
Abstract: An overlay network includes a virtual content server for representing a content provider in a virtual content network and at least a client having a membership in the virtual content network and a content path between the virtual content server and the client. Each node in the content path is also a member of the virtual content network and each link between nodes is provided by a tunnel to ensure trust and integrity at the content level.

  • Publication number: 20050265308
Abstract: At a service provider edge router in a service provider network, a logical grouping of one or more virtual private network tunnels through the service provider network is associated with a given value of a classification criterion. The receipt of a packet leads to a determination of a value of the classification criterion for the packet. Based on the value of the classification criterion, a logical grouping of one or more virtual private network tunnels may be selected and an identity of a processor, associated with the logical grouping determined. Finally, an internal route to the processor associated with the logical grouping is determined and the packet is sent over the internal route to the processor associated with the logical grouping.

  • Publication number: 20040177157
Abstract: Virtual Private Network (VPN) tunnels through a backbone network operated by a service provider may be considered as a logical grouping where the VPN tunnels share certain characteristics. The forwarding of a received packet onto a particular one of these VPN tunnels may be determined through a cascade of lookup tables. According to satisfaction of classification criteria, a given received packet may be modified for special treatment within the backbone network.

  • Publication number: 20030115253
Abstract: A framework for service personalization based upon a users personal profile is provided. The framework includes a method of providing service personalization (SP) in which a user agent identifies itself as being service personalization enabled to being a SP session. A SP engine assigns a unique identifier to the user agent for tagging all subsequent traffic from that subscriber. The SP engine establishes direct communications between the user agent and an appropriate entity for obtaining information on the location of the subscriber profile and derives personalization rules to form a personalization rule module that encodes criteria for performing personalization functions on user traffic. When a specific subscriber request for content is received, the SP engine invokes the personalization rules of the personalization rule module for application to content requested. It is important to note that the personalization rules can be invoked in one of four places, in two general categories.
