  • Patent number: 11859465
Abstract: A method for cementing a wellbore having a lost circulation zone includes installing a cement basket around a casing string having a casing diameter, and running and setting the casing string in the wellbore. The cement basket is set in proximity of and up hole from the lost circulation zone. The method includes pumping a cement slurry, through the casing string, to a first depth downhole from the cement basket, running a first tubing, having a tubing diameter, into an annulus between the casing string and the wellbore, and pumping the cement slurry, through the first tubing, to a second depth up hole from the cement basket. The tubing diameter is less than the casing diameter.

  • Patent number: 11268380
Abstract: Disclosed are methods, systems, and computer-readable medium to perform operations including: receiving a real-time density log comprising bulk density readings of a subterranean formation, where a well is being drilled in the subterranean formation; aggregating density readings over a first threshold distance from a current drilling depth in the subterranean formation; calculating a minimum formation density and a maximum formation density in the aggregated density readings; calculating a difference between the maximum formation density and the minimum formation density; in response to determining that the difference is greater than a field threshold, determining whether a previous kick alert occurred at least a second threshold distance from the current drilling depth; and in response to determining that the previous kick alert occurred at least the second threshold distance from the current drilling depth, detecting a kick in the well.

  • Patent number: 11021644
Abstract: Drilling fluids and methods of making and using drilling fluids are provided. The drilling fluid includes an emulsion comprising an oleaginous phase suspended within an aqueous phase, a clay-based component in the aqueous phase, CaCl2, KCl, or both in the aqueous phase, and a polyglycerol-fatty acid complex. The polyglycerol-fatty acid complex may be free of covalent crosslinks. The polyglycerol-fatty acid complex may include polyglycerol hydrogen bonded to a fatty acid, and the oleaginous phase may include safra oil and the polyglycerol-fatty acid complex. Methods of producing the drilling fluid include reacting polyglycerol and a fatty acid at a temperature of less than 250° C. thereby forming a polyglycerol-fatty acid complex. The method further includes mixing an aqueous phase, a clay-based component, and the polyglycerol-fatty acid complex to produce a drilling fluid.
