  • Patent number: 9283018
Abstract: The biodegradable kyphoplasty balloon system includes a biodegradable balloon catheter and a delivery system. The biodegradable balloon catheter includes an elastomeric tube and a biodegradable balloon. The elastomeric tube has opposed open and closed ends with a resealable slit being formed in a central portion thereof. The elastomeric tube is formed from an elastomer such that the resealable slit acts as a one-way inflation valve. The biodegradable balloon is mounted on the elastomeric tube such that the biodegradable balloon is sealed thereto about the resealable slit for selective inflation thereof. The delivery system includes a hollow push tube and an inflation tube. The hollow push tube has opposed first and second open ends. The inflation tube has opposed open and closed ends, with an aperture being formed through the inflation tube adjacent the closed end thereof. The hollow push tube slidably receives the inflation tube.

  • Patent number: 8900304
Abstract: The kyphoplasty cement encapsulation balloon is a flexible, resilient silicone balloon having a catheter or filling tube disposed inside the balloon. The filling tube has a closed end and a plurality of orifices defined in the tube radially. The tube has an open mouth extending through a hole in the balloon, defining an inflation port. The inflation port is internally threaded, and preferably has a radiopaque marker band extending around the port. The inflation port has a one-way duck or duckbill valve that closes the inflation port when the inflation cannula is detached from the port, thereby encapsulating the bone cement in the balloon and preventing leakage of the cement. The inflation cannula and the kyphoplasty cement encapsulation balloon may be furnished as a kit.

  • Patent number: 8734459
Abstract: The method for preventing extravasation of bone cement used in balloon kyphoplasty involves first forming a void in a vertebral body. A pair of unfilled balloons are then inserted into the void in the vertebral body. An injection tube or catheter is inserted through an inlet port of each of the balloons, and the balloons are filled with bone cement. The injection tubes are then removed from the inlet ports. The bone cement is preferably provided in the form of pellets or granules. The inlet ports are each provided with a seal, such as an elastic band mounted thereabout, or the like, allowing the inlet port to be automatically sealed as soon as the corresponding injection tube is withdrawn. The device includes at least the balloon and the seal, but may be furnished as a kit that also includes the bone cement and injection tube.
