At least some of the illustrative embodiments are methods including: obtaining information about a cash payment for services, the obtaining by a kiosk; receiving the cash payment from a user, the receiving by the kiosk; sending a request to a service provider of the services, the request to pay for services, and the sending from the kiosk to the service provider by way of a portable electronic device carried by the user; receiving, by the kiosk, a notification of approval from the service provider, the receiving by the kiosk through the portable electronic device; and receiving an indication of receipt related to the payment, the receiving by the portable electronic device.
