Publication number: 20150133130Abstract: Aspects of multi-subscriber identification module (SIM) small cell fingerprinting are described. In one embodiment, a first communication link is established with a first macro cell for a first communications service, and a second communication link is established with a second macro cell for a second communications service. Further, access neighborhoods of the first and second communications services are measured. Using the access neighborhood measurements, a fingerprint for a small cell may be generated. In this manner, fingerprints for various small cells may be generated, where each fingerprint includes measurement and/or positional data from two or more access networks of different communications services. Proximity to a small cell may be detected more reliably when using such fingerprints, because the fingerprints include measurement and/or positional data from two or more access networks.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 25, 2013Publication date: May 14, 2015Inventors: Sudip Alexei Gupta, Abhishek Pandit, Navin Kumar KARRA, Stephen James Richards

Patent number: 8908579Abstract: An acknowledgement technique reduces packet-switched communication delays. The technique may be implemented in a mobile communication device with multiple SIMs. The technique facilitates enhanced communication capability for the mobile communication device. In one implementation, the technique helps reduce delays caused by switching between packet-switched and circuit-switched communications. Specifically, in one aspect, the technique reduces delays caused by exponential backoff that may occur during suspension of a packet-switched communication.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 2012Date of Patent: December 9, 2014Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Yuan Liu, Sethuraman Gurumoorthy, Yaxin Cao, Giridhar Pattaswamy, Navin K. Patent number: 8725212Abstract: User equipment with multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) includes techniques for intelligently allowing the SIMs to access the radio resources. In one aspect, the techniques determine whether a network signaling criteria is satisfied. When the network signaling criteria is satisfied, the user equipment may communicate a signaling connection release indication to a network controller handling a first SIM network connection. When the network signaling criteria is not satisfied, however, the user equipment may forgo communicating the signaling connection release indication to the network controller handing the first SIM network connection. In either case, the user equipment may locally deactivate the first SIM network connection so that the radio frequency interface may be transitioned to a second SIM.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2012Date of Patent: May 13, 2014Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Giridhar Pattaswamy, Navin K. Patent number: 8526946Abstract: Systems and methods are presented to support operation of a multiple subscriber identity module (SIM) device. A first SIM may perform a data transfer or voice call. During the first SIM's data transfer or voice call, transition times are identified to transition communication resources to a second SIM for use in performing a registration update communication with a network controller that supports the second SIM. The registration update communication may include a periodic location update, a periodic routing update, or a periodic tracking update. The multiple SIM device may identify the transition time by obtaining periodic registration timing information from the network controller, configuring a periodic registration timer based on the periodic registration timing information, and setting the transition time as an expiration time of the periodic registration timer.Type: GrantFiled: July 10, 2012Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Broadcom CorporationInventors: Giridhar Pattaswamy, Navin K. Publication number: 20130150032Abstract: User equipment includes techniques that may improve operation by selectively controlling access to particular radio access technologies (RATs) for the user equipment while it is operating in certain modes, such as idle mode. Once the user equipment is in a connected mode, and operating with significant uplink and\or downlink traffic activity, inter-RAT procedures can provide the benefits of access to multiple RATs. This technique is useful in many different environments, such as an environment that is predominantly 2G or 3G with 4G hot spot coverage. This technique may also be useful for providing enhanced operations in 2G/3G capable dual SIM user equipment running in a camped mode or other modes. The technique is not limited to 2G/3G/4G or any other particular standards, but may apply to any standards in a sequence of evolving or incrementally improving standards.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 22, 2012Publication date: June 13, 2013Applicant: BROADCOM CORPORATIONInventors: GIRIDHAR PATTASWAMY, NAVIN K.
