  • Patent number: 7227495
Abstract: A radar fill-level sensing device has a high-frequency unit that serves to generate and process radar signals of a predefined frequency and wavelength, an antenna for transmitting and/or receiving the radar signals, as well as circuitry, provided on a circuit board. That circuitry includes a microstrip circuit for connecting the high-frequency unit to the antenna, that microstrip circuit featuring a ground conductor. The ground conductor encompasses a first segment, a radial stub and a second segment, the length of the first segment corresponding essentially to one quarter of the predefined wavelength. The radial stub is positioned at the end of the first segment, the second segment connects to the end of the first segment and to the radial stub, and the second segment is grounded. Based on this design, a radar fill-level sensing device is obtained that can easily and reproducibly be implemented within the requirements of “intrinsically safe” ignition protection.

  • Publication number: 20040140814
Abstract: A level meter that employs the radar principle for measuring the fill level of a medium in a container, includes a signal generator for generating and transmitting an electromagnetic signal, an electrical conductor assembly for feeding the electromagnetic signal emanating from the signal generator into the container and returning the portion of the electromagnetic signal reflected by the medium in the container, and an evaluation electronics unit that receives the portion of the electromagnetic signal reflected by the medium in the container and determines its transit or run time and thus the fill level of the medium in the container. A transducer, differentiated from the conductor assembly, is provided for measuring an additional physical variable. This enhances the functional capabilities of the level meter.

  • Patent number: 6724197
Abstract: A fill-level detector operating by the radar principle gauges the fill-level of the lower of two substances layered one atop the other in a container. The detector incorporates first and second essentially straight, parallel electrical conductors having a signal generator and a transducer mounted to the upper ends of the conductors with the lower ends of the conductors protruding into the lower substance. The generator delivers a signal to the first conductor which signal is conducted into the lower substance with a portion of that signal being reflected at the interface of the two substances which signal portion is captured by the transducer. The detector is able to determine to fill level of the lower substance even when the upper substance displays a high dielectric constant.

  • Publication number: 20020084931
Abstract: A fill level measuring arrangement with a fill level meter, and a vessel (1), whereby the fill level meter operates on the radar principle, for measuring the fill level of a medium (2) in the vessel (1) and an electrical conductor arrangement (3) with a signal generator for generating and transmitting an electromagnetic signal, the conductor arrangement (3) extending into the vessel (1) and at least to a region at the bottom (4) of the vessel (1), the signal generator being positioned at the end of the conductor arrangement (3) which is outside the medium (2) so that the signal produced by the signal generator can be coupled into the conductor arrangement (3) at the end located outside the medium (2).

  • Patent number: 6404288
Abstract: An arrangement for generating a first alternating signal and a second alternating signal that is in a predetermined, fixed frequency relation to the first signal. The arrangement may be used as a time based generator for a level meter that operates according to the radar principle and whose measuring system is based on the time domain reflectometry (TDR) measuring principle.
