Abstract: A mobile electronic device and methods for providing information to a mobile electronic device using a web service are disclosed. In one implementation, a mobile electronic device is provided that comprises a request processing component for receiving an information request, a wireless interface for coupling the mobile electronic device to a network in order to obtain an online of the information from a web service, and a storage component for storing an offline version of the information, wherein the request processing component is adapted to send a web service request to the web service in response to the information request if the mobile electronic device is within a network coverage area and otherwise to access the storage component.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for the automatic entry of user data into an application program. In one implementation, a computer stores an embedded mark-up language document carrying user data and executes an application program. A graphical user interface displays a graphical representation of the embedded mark-up language document and a graphical representation of the application program so that a user may select the mark-up language document to initiate an automatic entry of user data into the application program.

The data processing system uses one or more web services as potential replacement(s) if a server computer and/or a component that is used by the server computer for providing a particular data processing service becomes unavailable.

Abstract: Data processing systems and methods are disclosed for providing a payment using a Web service. In one implementation, a first computer is used for entry of data values into respective data entry fields of an electronic data entry form. Further, an identifier of the Web service, such as the uniform resource locator (URL) of the Web service, is entered into the first computer. Next, the first computer initiates data processing for providing the payment that is to be performed by a second computer on the basis of the data values entered into the electronic data entry form. The initiation and/or performance or completion of the data processing is signaled to the Web service by sending corresponding signaling data, which includes payment advice data of the payment. The Web service is coupled to a third computer that receives a result of the data processing from the second computer.

Abstract: Data processing systems and methods are disclosed that utilize the Home Banking Computer Interface (HBCI) protocol for secure communication with a web service. Usage of the HBCI protocol protects the communication of a requester with the web service against eavesdropping and tampering. Further, implementation of a dual control business procedure is facilitated.
