  • Patent number: 7153790
Abstract: A penetration-resistant material is described to include at least a double layer of woven fabric, wherein the double layer includes a first layer of fabric composed of a first set of threads having 3.5 to 20 threads/cm, having a linear density of at least 210 dtex, and composing at least 65% of the first layer fabric weight, and a second set of threads comprising 0.5 to 16 threads/cm and having a linear density of at least 50 dtex, with the second set of threads being transverse to the first set of threads, and the ratio of the number of threads/cm of the first set to that of the second set is greater than 1:1, and a second layer of fabric composed of a first set of threads having 0.5 to 16 threads/cm and having a linear density of at least 50 dtex, and a second set of threads having 3.

  • Patent number: 6012178
Abstract: A helmet, in particular an antiballistic helmet, containing protective textile fabric layers made from antiballistic fibers including aramide fibers, polyethylene fibers spun by the gel spinning process, glass fibers, metal fibers, or blends thereof. Aramide fibers are preferred. The textile fabric layers arranged on the side away from the wearer are made of multiaxial knitted fabric, and the textile fabric layers on the side toward the wearer are made of woven fabric. The layers of multiaxial knitted fabric preferably comprise 60-80% of all reinforcement layers.

  • Patent number: 5880042
Abstract: Protective clothing, in particular clothing which protects against injuries caused by stabbing instruments, cutting instruments, projectiles or splinters, consisting of multiple layers of flat structures. At least one side of at least one of these layers has been given a ceramic coating applied by plasma spraying. The layers preferably consist of woven fabrics made from aramide fibers. The protective clothing is especially suitable for stab protection, but a combined protection against the threat of stabbing or projectile weapons can also be achieved by this clothing while providing a good standard of wearer comfort.

  • Patent number: 5622773
Abstract: Two-stage process for plasma treatment of antiballistically effective materials such as aromatic polyamides. The first stage includes a plasma treatment with at least 50% inorganic gas or a mixture of inorganic gases, and the second phase includes a plasma treatment with a hydrophobically acting organic gas or mixtures of such gases from the group of saturated hydrocarbons, unsaturated hydrocarbons, saturated fluorocarbons, unsaturated fluorocarbons, siloxanes, or vinyl compounds. In the second stage, a mixture of one or more inorganic gases with one or more hydrophobically acting organic gases can also be used. The process improves antiballistic effectiveness.

  • Patent number: 5545470
Abstract: An anti-vandalism layer, especially for application in vehicle seats, vehicle roofs, vehicle tarpaulins, tents, inflatable structures, wall facing, and similar objects having an incisible exterior layer and subject to vandalism, includes of a knit fabric having at least in part cut-resistant fibers such as aromatic polyamide fibers, gel-spun polyethylene fibers, or glass fibers is disclosed. In at least one thread system, the knit fabric contains a wire present in a thread system projecting from the surface of the knit fabric such that during subsequent gluing of the anti-vandalism layer to, for example, a textile flat structure, gluing tends to occur on this thread system.

  • Patent number: 5514457
Abstract: Textile structures, such as fabrics, knits, warp-knitted fabrics, stitch-bonded fabrics, thread structures, etc. for use in clothing which protects against stabbing, cutting, fragments and bullets, are produced from wrapped yarns. These yarns have a core of penetration resistant fibers and an outer sheath of natural and/or manmade fibers that can easily be dyed, printed, or optically brightened.
