    Abstract: The present invention relates to new palladium-containing polymer compositions which are characterized by a very finely disperse distribution of metallic palladium, and to the process for their preparation. Palladium-containing polymer compositions containing polymers with unsaturated groups are used inter alia as hydrogen absorbent compositions in the production of fibre optic cables for the purpose of protecting the optical fibres against hydrogen. As is well known, the diffusion of hydrogen into optical fibres has an adverse effect on the damping properties of the optical fibres.
