  • Patent number: 4672923
Abstract: Each cylinder of a liquid cooled in-line internal combustion engine includes a cylinder pipe surrounded by an annular cooling chamber. The cooling chambers are interconnected in series by crossover passages between adjacent cylinder pipes and the cooling chambers have a greater cross sectional flow area on one side of the longitudinal central plane of the engine than on the other side. This cross sectional flow area relationship is reversed from cylinder to cylinder to thereby cause a meandering course of flow for a portion of the coolant thereby assuring adequate flow around the entire surface of the cylinder pipe and good flushing of the crossover passages between the cylinder pipes.

  • Patent number: 4377989
Abstract: An air-cooled internal combustion engine having a cooling air blower which is driven by a hydrodynamic coupling from the internal combustion engine. The hydrodynamic coupling is thermostatically regulated or controlled by oil flow supplied thereto, as a result of a filling thereof as a function of the temperature of a structural port, or of the exhaust gas, or of the heated cooling air. In order to adapt to the atmospheric air pressure, the oil filling of the hydraulic coupling is additionally supplied with oil via an additional filling line controlled by a barometric diaphragm and a regulator, with the hydrodynamic coupling being dimensioned larger for receiving this additional filling quantity.

  • Patent number: 4276859
Abstract: A pressure lubrication system for an internal combustion engine, according to which lubricating oil is drawn out of an oil pan by means of an oil pump through a suction conduit which has an intake funnel and a filter. The intake funnel has an inner maximum diameter of about five times that of the cross section of the suction conduit. At its inlet opening, the intake funnel takes the shape of a circular, flat disc located in or parallel to the plane of the inlet opening.

  • Patent number: 4120673
Abstract: An apparatus for separating gases from fluids, which apparatus includes a closed cylindrical receptacle and a cylindrical insert which divides the interior of the receptacle into an annular outer part and a cylindrical inner part. The outer part is provided with a tangential inlet for the fluid. Near the top, an opening connects the outer part to the inner part, the latter being provided with a ventilation device. The outer annular part is divided in the axial direction by a partition which ascends spirally from the tangential inlet approximately in a complete turn in the direction of the upper end face cover of the receptacle. The connection opening is formed by an annular clearance which extends over nearly the entire circumference of the receptacle. A similar annular clearance at the bottom of the receptacle connects the inner cylindrical part with the outer annular part, the latter having a tangential discharge outlet in this region.
