    Abstract: Apparatus for transmission of torque in the power train of a motor vehicle has coaxial rotary first and second torque transmitting devices, each of which can constitute a simple or a composite flywheel, and a torsional vibration damper operating between the two devices. The damper is installed in an annular chamber which is sealed at its periphery and is flanked by two sidewalls of the first torque transmitting device. The damper includes a washer-like partition which is affixed to the second torque transmitting device and has arms extending radially outwardly into the chamber. The radially inner part of the annular chamber is sealed by annular seals having annular carriers borne by the sidewalls at opposite sides of the partition, and deformable annular lips secured to the carriers and bearing upon the respective sides of the partition. The carriers and the lips consist of different materials and the seals serve to prevent penetration of impurities into and/or the escape of lubricant from the chamber.

The disc parts are rotatable relative to each other against the action of an energy accumulator such as a coiled compression spring. The energy accumulator is seated in a suspension device that is divided into two socket parts. The socket parts are rotatable in relation to each other as well as in relation to the input and output disc parts.

    Abstract: The coil springs of an arcuate energy storing device in a torsional vibration damper are fitted into each other in such a way that at least one convolution of the inner spring engages at least one convolution of the outer spring when the energy storing device is caused to store energy (or to store additional energy) and/or is permitted to dissipate energy while the damper is in actual use, e.g., between the primary and secondary flywheels of a composite flywheel in the power train of a motor vehicle. The at least one convolution of the outer spring can be facetted and/or deformed for reliable engagement with the at least one convolution of the inner spring, and the at least one convolution of the inner spring can have a circular or a non-circular outline. The at least one convolution of the inner spring can engage one or more end convolutions or one or more intermediate convolutions of the outer spring.

    Abstract: A friction clutch between an engine and a transmission in a motor vehicle has a diaphragm spring with prongs which are moved axially by a bearing in order to disengage the clutch. The bearing is mounted on an actuating device including a driven part carried by a support on the transmission case and a driving part which can be rotated by a clutch pedal. The actuating device can be moved axially by a first ramp assembly having complementary ramps on the support and the driven part. A second ramp assembly forms part of a wear compensating unit which automatically changes the axial position and/or the orientation of the diaphragm spring to compensate for wear at least upon the friction linings of the clutch disc forming part of the clutch. The second ramp assembly can include mating internal and external threads. A third ramp assembly is defined or carried by the driving and driven parts of the actuating device.

    Abstract: An apparatus which is used to operate a clutch in the power train between the prime mover and the transmission of a motor vehicle has a bearing which can be moved axially against the prongs of the clutch spring to change the state of the clutch between an engaged and a disengaged condition. In addition to being movable in response to the depression of a clutch pedal, the bearing is also movable by a compensating unit forming part of the clutch operating apparatus and serving to compensate for wear upon the friction linings of the clutch disc and, if necessary, upon the pressure plate and the counterpressure plate of the clutch.
