    Abstract: According to examples, data collection and analysis-based device monitoring may include obtaining, at a monitoring data collector, from an optical fiber of a sensing membrane that is used to monitor a thermal property of a device, monitoring data associated with the monitoring of the thermal property of the device. The monitoring data may be forwarded to a monitoring data analyzer that is remote from the monitoring data collector. Based on an analysis of the monitoring data by the monitoring data analyzer, an indication of an operational status of the device may be received from the monitoring data analyzer. A device controller may control, based on the indication of the operational status of the device, an operation of the device.

A power level of the test channel and a total power level of the plurality of channels are measured, by means of the power-level measurement system. A ratio of the total power level of the plurality of channels to the power level of the test channel is then evaluated, by means of the evaluation unit, to detect an imbalance in a power level of the test channel.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for frequency sweeping a CATV network, suitable for an upstream path frequency sweeping, is presented. A narrowband test signal is injected into the network by a generator coupled to a cable modem during a time interval allocated by the head end for the cable modem to transmit a modulated digital signal. The amplitude of the test signal is lower than the amplitude of the modulated digital signal, so as not to impair reception of said digital signal at the head end. The frequency of the test signal is swept, and the amplitude of the received test signal is measured. A telemetry or a digital signal transmission is used to communicated the values of the amplitude of the test signals between the injection and the measurement locations of the network.

    Abstract: An RF circuit for use as a front end for a combined leakage signal detector and signal level monitor includes a shared frequency conversion stage utilized for both leakage signals and signal level monitoring ("SLM") signals. One embodiment of the present invention includes an RF circuit comprising a first RF input, a second RF input, a frequency conversion circuit and a coupling device. The first RF input is operable to receive first signals to be monitored, the first signals being in a first frequency range. The second RF input is operable to receive leakage signals to be detected, the leakage signals also being in a first frequency range. The frequency conversion circuit is operable to convert signals in the first frequency range to signals in a second frequency range, the frequency conversion circuit operable to receive unconverted first signals and unconverted leakage signals and produce output signals therefrom.
