Abstract: A lift apparatus (100) for a vehicle comprises a lifting platform (115) and a movable connection assembly (110) for deploying and operating the lifting platform (115). The movable connection assembly (110) comprises at least two pairs of hydraulically driven lifting arms (145, 146) on either side of the lifting platform (115) and pivotally connected at a first end to a base (140) and at a second end to the lifting platform (115), at least two hydraulic actuators being disposed in connection with each pair of arms (145, 146) acting in substantially the same direction as each other. The hydraulic actuators are powered by a common source. The lift can be used to allow wheelchair bound passengers to board the vehicle or for lifting heavy articles onto the vehicle.

Abstract: A ramp (2) to give wheelchair access to a bus (4) comprises a raisable and lowerable platform (26) pivotably mounted on a supporting frame (14) and a further platform (28) extensible beyond a front end (32) of the platform (26) and retractable relative to that platform. A fluid pressure operated piston and cylinder unit (58) below the ramp is arranged to act between the platforms to extend and retract the platform (28) along a line of action A. The unit (58) acts along a line of action B which is transverse to line A. The supporting frame (14) is U-shaped with horizontal open ended slots (82 and 84) at the front ends of its arms. Similar platform slots are formed in two opposite sides of the platform (26) adjacent its front end (32) and each platform slot coincide with the respective slot (82 or 84) when the platform (26) is in a raised position.

The system permits the operator of a video image system to selectively transmit desired portions of the video image at an operator selected resolution, operator selected compression level, and operator selected order of transmission of each of the portions. The system also includes a novel method of retransmitting only those packets of data which have been erroneously transmitted and an automated retransmission protocol which retransmits data in a more robust manner where errors are detected in the first transmission of the data. Also disclosed in the system is a method of shading various portions of the video image to inform the system operator of which portions of the video image have been transmitted and a protocol for limiting the duration of and for altering the frequency of data transmissions to avoid detection and/or jamming by others.
