  • Publication number: 20070086669
Abstract: A first representation of a video stream is received that includes video frames, the representation expressing the video frames at a relatively high pixel resolution. At least one of the video frames is detected to include a region of interest. A second representation of the video stream that expresses the video frames at a relatively low pixel resolution is provided to a video playing device. Included with the second representation is additional information that represents at least a portion of the region of interest at a resolution level that is higher than the relatively low pixel resolution.

  • Publication number: 20060166650
Abstract: A request to retrieve a message, such as a voice mail message or an email message, may be provided by a user a of an electronic device. The message has one of at least two different presentation modes by which it may be revealed to the user at the electronic device. The message is retrieved using one of at least two different communication networks depending on a presentation mode by which the message may be revealed.

  • Publication number: 20060161503
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, and software product are presented for allowing a user to control web browsing costs incurred when using a device such as a mobile device to access the world-wide web. The invention involves selecting a preferred browser strategy from a plurality of browser strategies that correspond to respective levels of estimated browsing costs, and then browsing at least one web page using the preferred browser strategy.

  • Publication number: 20060080354
Abstract: A method and corresponding equipment for selecting data objects from a set of data objects in a source data store according to a predetermined method for assigning utility for each of the data objects in the set of data objects. The predetermined method for assigning utility typically takes into account a plurality of factors, and provides weights for each, so that, for example, the utility assigned to a data object decreases in time, but is enhanced if the data object has not yet been viewed by a user or if the data object is marked to indicate that a follow-up action is required. The invention is of use for example as part of or in connection with a mobile phone messaging user agent that stores in the mobile phone only the higher utility data objects (messages) in a full set of data objects.

  • Publication number: 20050195221
Abstract: A system, apparatus, and method for facilitating presentation of content on communication device displays. A side-by-side or other adjacent display presentation allows content to be viewed in both a thumbnail view and a reformatted enhanced view. Content is converted to a raster image which is in turn segmented, either automatically or involving user guidance, to create a segmented raster image. Resulting segments may be selected for viewing in the enhanced viewing mode, such as an enlarged, reformatted presentation to allow the targeted region to be more easily viewed and/or to require fewer user interface manipulations. Regions can be labeled for simple and efficient selection of targeted regions.
