  • Patent number: 10400975
Abstract: Automotive lamp (10), preferably a backup lamp, includes first lamp (12) and plural LEDs (26a-n). The lamp (12) comprises light-transmissive material, first and second opposed end surfaces (16, 18), a source side (20) and an emission side (22) each extending between end surfaces (16, 18), source side (20) facing LEDs (26a-n), and emission side (22) having an aspherical surface facing area to be illuminated (24). The elongated optical lens (14) has a length (L) extending, parallel a first horizontal X-axis, between the end surfaces (16, 18) that is greater than a thickness along second horizontal Z-axis and a height along vertical Y-axis (X-, Y-, and Z-axes being mutually orthogonal). Elongated optical lens (14) defines focus line segment (FS) extending parallel the X-axis, and preferably bends LED light below a horizontal XZ plane, i.e. back towards source side (20).

  • Patent number: 10378715
Abstract: A solid-state automotive vehicle headlamp includes a solid-state light source (SSLS), a clamshell reflector, and a reflector optic. The clamshell reflector includes a reflective surface defining a clamshell cavity with an open end facing a field to be illuminated. The reflector optic is defined by a portion of a spherical surface in surrounding relation to the SSLC. The reflector optic defines a light-transmissive window permitting a direct line-of-sight transmission of light generated by the SSLC to the reflective surface of the clamshell reflector. The reflector optic further includes a reflective region at least partially surrounding the light-transmissive window and configured to reflect light generated by the SSLC and directed at the reflector optic back towards the SSLC. The reflector optic redirects some of the light emitted by the SSLC through the light-transmissive window towards the clamshell reflector to create a more controlled beam pattern and increase the overall light output.

  • Patent number: 10094527
Abstract: A projection headlamp (12) has a reflector (28) reflecting light emitted from a light engine (20); a projector lens (30) projecting reflected light from the reflector (28); and a shutter (22) disposed between light engine (20) and projector lens (30), the shutter (22) having an upper edge (44) defining a cut-off to generate a low beam pattern by obscuring a portion of the projector lens (30) from the reflected light and to selectively emit the reflected light through the projector lens (30) in a low-beam light distribution pattern. The shutter (22) further includes a partially light-transmissive shutter bump (56) extending above the upper edge (44) which attenuates light emitted from the projector lens (30) in a predefined area of the low-beam pattern. Light intensity at the 0.86D, 3.5L NHTSA test point (112) is attenuated to below maximum photometric intensity (12,000 candela), avoiding glare.

  • Patent number: 9103520
Abstract: An automotive combined turn signal and tail/stop lamp (10) having co-axial transparent collimating inner and outer light guides (18, 30). Inner collimating light guide (18) receives light from a yellow LED (16), outer collimating light guide (30) receives light from red LEDs (14), the yellow and red LEDs located in thermal communication with a common heat sink (2). Mirror optics (40, 42) reflect light from respective light output prisms (28, 35) of the inner and outer light guides outward to nested reflectors on the automobile. Electrical conductors (48) between the light guides (18, 30) can feed power from a PC board (12) to supply additional light sources within an RCL housing, such as white back-up light.
