Abstract: Embodiments include formulations and methods for oromucosal administration of a dry powder to create a topical foam composition to deliver medicaments to an interior mucosal space, such as the oral cavity, nasal cavity, rectal cavity, vaginal cavity or esophagus. The active agent can be amifostine, an antibiotic, an anti-fungal, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug or a steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Oromucosal delivery allows one to target oral epithelial cells. Embodiments also include methods of treating mucositis. Conventional formulations and methods are generally ineffective because drugs cannot be directed toward epithelial cells of the GI that are most susceptible to mucositis. The formulations described herein increase concentration, permeability and residence time at a target site. The formulations also allow stable forms of amifostine, which obviates difficulties associated with storing, dosing and administering the drug.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to the removal of hydrogen fluoride (HF) from an excimer laser either in operation or in standby using a metal halide salt reactor. Removal of HF is desirable because the contaminant not only absorbs laser emission, thus reducing laser power, but it is also chemically reactive, and degrades the lifetime of internal laser components. The metal halide salt reactor may be provided either in the laser vessel or in an external conduit loop.

Abstract: An eye and face shield having an attached lamp. The shield is entirely transparent so that a wearer's normal field of vision is unrestricted. The shield is of a size to afford protection for the entire facial area. A battery-operated lamp is attached to the shield to illuminate work sites where visibility is poor. The shield and the lamp are pivotally fastened to a headband. The pivoting ability allows a user to quickly and easily move the shield from the face, if desired, without removing the entire device from the head. The headband can be adjusted to accommodate different head sizes.
