Abstract: Multiple computer workstations are connected to output ports of an automatic switching device having a controller switch. Input devices, such as a mouse and keyboard, are connected to an input port of the automatic switching device and multiple displays may be either connected directly to a corresponding workstation, or to the automatic switching device. Output signals of the input devices are routed to a selected output port of the automatic switching device. The controller switch automatically switches the output signals of the input devices between the output ports when a switch command signal is received from the selected port. The switch command signal is sent to the automatic switching device by a software agent in a workstation when the software agent detects that movement of a mouse meets a predetermined boundary condition, such as moving off the edge of a display.
