In some embodiments, the mobile devices can provide boundary-crossing signals when their location cross a boundary corresponding to the specified location causing the resident controller to update the user states based on the boundary-crossing signals and update a presence state of the specified location based on changes to the user states, where the device profile specifies a first action to be performed when the presence state transitions to a first presence value.

While a first option in the first sequence of selectable options is displayed in the first selection region of the radial menu, the electronic device detects an option-selection input associated with the radial menu. Responsive to detecting the option-selection input, the electronic device slides the first sequence of selectable options around the perimeter of the radial menu so that the first option is moved out of the first selection region and a second option is moved into the first selection region.

    Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for creating a composite presentation. The method performs a first automated process to select a subset of media content pieces from a set of available media content pieces (MCPs), based on analysis of metadata associated with the MCPs. The method performs a second automated process to generate a definition of the composite presentation from the selected subset of MCPs. The second automated process defines edits that select desired portions of the selected subset of MCPs for inclusion in the composite presentation. The method then renders the composite presentation based on the generated definition.

    Abstract: Some embodiments of the invention provide a virtual staging area for presenting media content. The virtual staging area of some embodiments is formed by staging areas of multiple different devices in which a same set of content can be viewed. To provide a common viewing experience, the staging areas are presented in a similar manner across different types of user devices. Each staging area may be presented as a virtual movie theatre that has movie posters that advertise user content. A sharing service operates on each of the different devices to facilitate the virtual staging area. The sharing service of some embodiments allows a person to choose a piece of content stored on a device. The sharing service then publishes the content to the device's staging area. From there, the content is then distributed across to the person's other devices.
