  • Patent number: 5229125
Abstract: A polymer resin-molluscicidal composite for preventing and controlling damage to water distribution systems caused by Dreissena polymorpha, the zebra mussel, and other undesirable sessile mollusks is provided. The composite is preferably formed of an ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene and 0.1 to 20 weight percent of a water insoluble, high melting point molluscicide which is preferably a metal salt or complex of an organic sulfur compound. Alkyldithiocarbamates, tetraalkylthiuram sulfides and the metal salts and complexes thereof are preferred molluscicides. The molluscicidal composite may be formed into structural components, such as valves, or into linings, coatings and encapsulators.

  • Patent number: 4536018
Abstract: An expansion joint for connecting pipe ends includes a fluorocarbon polymer tube having a reinforcing fabric embedded within it. The ends of the tube have radially extending flanges which are adapted to be in sealing relationship with the pipe ends. The tube has an annular arch spaced between the tube flanges. Metal stub ends having a radially extending flange at one end are in abutting relation to the tube flanges, thereby providing support and improved sealing from the otherwise flexible tube flange. A rubber backing is fastened to the fabric embedded in the tube. A back-up ring having peripheral fastener apertures is disposed about the tube at each end of the tube. The tube flanges are compressed between the back-up ring and pipe flange when the latter two are bolted together. A washer, spaced between the backup ring and rubber back permits the ring to be rotated about the tube to allow alignment of peripheral ring fastener apertures with corresponding fastener apertures in the pipe flange.

  • Patent number: 4388259
Abstract: A fluorocarbon polymer gasket is disclosed which has been compression formed from a fluorocarbon polymer sheet heated to its gel state, cooled in its compressed state, and shaped into a gasket. The gasket so manufactured has a "living memory" thus enabling it to tend to return to its pre-compression form when exposed to elevated temperatures.

  • Patent number: 3953006
Abstract: Elastomeric compositions of discrete parts of curable polymer and a curing agent are converted, by means of a portable, hand held conversion and dispensing apparatus, to a curable mass. The apparatus in a single compact package includes means for (1) receiving the uncured composition or article (2) breaking or fragmenting the composition (3) conveying the fragmented composition to a mixing zone (4) mixing the curable composition and (5) discharging or dispensing the mixed curable material into or on a substrate for in situ curing thereat. Also included is a power source and power transmission means wherein different rotational speeds and directions are obtained between the conveying and mixing means.
