  • Publication number: 20160068665
Abstract: Cellulose ester plastics may be formulated to have a depressed melt processing temperatures, improved heat resistance, increased mechanical stability, or some combination thereof. For example, in some instances, a cellulose ester plastic may include a plasticized cellulose ester at about 1% to about 99% by weight of the cellulose ester plastic, the plasticized cellulose ester consisting of a cellulose ester at about 60% to about 90% by weight of the plasticized cellulose ester and a plasticizer at about 10% to about 40% by weight of the plasticized cellulose ester, wherein the plasticizer comprises a carbonate ester, a polyol benzoate, or both; and a thermoplastic polymer at about 1% to about 99% by weight of the cellulose ester plastic; and wherein the cellulose ester plastic is melt processable.

  • Publication number: 20150361310
Abstract: In some instances, adhesives may include a cellulose ester and a plasticizer in an amount of about 15% or greater by weight of the adhesive, wherein the plasticizer comprises a nonionic surfactant. In some instances, adhesives may include a cellulose ester and a mixture of two or more plasticizers in an amount of about 15% or greater by weight of the adhesive, wherein a melt flow index of the adhesive melt is greater than comparable adhesive melts that comprise the cellulose ester and only one of the plasticizers at the same amount.

  • Publication number: 20150307754
Abstract: Adhesives may include a base polymer composition, optionally a tackifying resin, optionally a wax, and optionally additives (e.g., plasticizers, fillers, antioxidants, and the like, and combinations thereof), where the base polymer comprises a highly plasticized cellulose ester and optionally polymers traditionally used in pressure sensitive adhesives, hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives, or hot melt adhesives (e.g., ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, polysiloxanes, and polyurethanes).

  • Publication number: 20150306230
Abstract: A drug delivery vehicle (e.g., a patch, a pill, an intravaginal ring, and an implant) may include a polymer matrix comprising a plasticizer and at least one selected from the group consisting of: a cellulose ester, a cellulose ether, a starch ester, a starch ether, and a combination thereof. A drug may be dispersed in the polymer matrix, in another portion of the drug delivery vehicle, or both.
