  • Patent number: 9279405
Abstract: The present invention relates to a powertrain control system (1) for a motor vehicle. The vehicle comprises an internal combustion engine (5) and an adjustable suspension system (9) operable in accordance with first and second ride height settings, said settings being associated with respective first and second vehicle ride heights. The powertrain control system (1) comprises a stop/start controller (11) for issuing an engine stop request signal and an inhibitor (15) for inhibiting operation of the stop/start controller (11) in dependence on a selected ride height setting.

    Assignee: Jaguar Land Rover Limited
Inventors: Adam Leatherland, Baptiste Bureau, Scott Balder
  • Patent number: 9145146
Abstract: The present invention provides a motor vehicle having driver-selectable first and second modes (eco, dynamic) of operation and driver-operable means for selecting the first and second modes. Driver selection of the second mode (dynamic) when the first mode (eco) has also been selected causes the vehicle to deselect the first mode (eco), subsequent deselection by the driver of the second mode (dynamic) causing the first mode (eco) to be reselected automatically by the vehicle. If the first mode (eco) is selected by the driver when the vehicle is in the second mode (dynamic), the vehicle selects the first mode (eco) in addition to the second mode (dynamic). A further aspect is directed to a method.

  • Patent number: 9056609
Abstract: The present application relates to a powertrain control system (1) for a motor vehicle. The vehicle has an internal combustion engine (5) coupled to a transmission (9). The transmission (9) is operable in a high range and a low range. The powertrain control system (1) has a stop/start controller (11) for issuing an engine stop request signal when one or more conditions have been met. An inhibitor (15) is also provided for inhibiting operation of the stop/start controller (11) when the low range is selected. The application also relates to a method of operating a motor vehicle power-train.

  • Publication number: 20040193354
Abstract: An adaptive cruise control device (1) provides a mechanism for re-engaging adaptive cruise control after a vehicle has been brought to a halt automatically. A “blip” on the throttle pedal when the driver wants to proceed is detected by a throttle position sensor (3) and in response, the device (1) instructs the adaptive cruise control system to re-engage. A safety feature inhibits re-engagement if the gap between the vehicle and one in front is below a preset range.

  • Publication number: 20040193353
Abstract: An adaptive cruise control module (1) for automatically bringing a vehicle to a halt behind a target vehicle includes a look-up table (8) holding pre-computed brake demand values for given target ranges and vehicle speeds. A controller (7) applies an appropriately selected brake demand value to the vehicle's braking system (4) until the vehicle comes to rest. The look-up table (8) values are computed such that the rate of deceleration and rate of change of deceleration closely match those applied by a typical driver when manually stopping a vehicle. A further refinement allows the vehicle to creep along behind the target vehicle in a slowly-moving queue of traffic by providing the look-up table (8) with throttle demand values for given target ranges for application to a throttle control system (5, 6).
