  • Patent number: 8689772
Abstract: A common rail fuel injector includes a fuel inlet, a set of nozzle outlets, a drain outlet, a nozzle chamber and a needle control chamber. A needle control valve includes a ceramic control valve member movable between a closed position in contact with a flat valve seat to block the needle control chamber from the drain outlet, and an open position at which the needle control chamber is fluidly connected to the drain outlet. A solenoid actuator is mounted in the injector body and includes an armature movable between an overtravel position and an energized position, but the armature has a stable un-energized position between the overtravel position and the energized position. A needle valve member is positioned in the injector body and includes an opening hydraulic surface exposed to fluid pressure in the nozzle chamber, and a closing hydraulic surface exposed to fluid pressure in the needle control chamber.

  • Publication number: 20100182605
Abstract: A fluid detector and a method of detecting a fluid are described. The fluid detector includes a broadband light source (10) for providing a light beam (12) including light of at least a predetermined bandwidth, and an optical power detector (40) arranged to provide an output signal indicative of the total power of incident light. An optical path extends from the light source to the optical power detector. The optical path includes a tunable optical filter (20) and a fluid sampling region (30). The tunable optical filter is a tunable optical band-rejection filter, and has a rejection band narrower than the bandwidth of the light beam. The rejection band is swept across the wavelengths of the predetermined bandwidth of the light beam. The tunable optical filter may comprise a fiber Bragg grating.

  • Patent number: 5708866
Abstract: A camera intended to be used with a multiple flash bulb unit selects an unused flash bulb farthest from the taking lens to reduce a red-eye effect when a near range camera-to-subject distance is chosen and selects an unused flash bulb closest to the taking lens when a far range camera-to-subject distance is selected.
