  • Publication number: 20130133381
Abstract: A system and method for preventing wardrobing is presented. A method loops the ribbon through a merchandise item. A branding tag is locked onto the ribbon so that the ribbon cannot be removed from the merchandise item without cutting the ribbon or breaking the branding tag. The branding tag contains branding information related to the merchandise item. When the item is returned, a determination is made if the ribbon and/or the branding tag have been tampered with. The method does not provide a refund when tampering has occurred.

  • Patent number: 8394328
Abstract: A system for diagnostic testing may include a meter for performing a test on a sample applied to a test media and a selectively closable container configured to house test media compatible with the meter. The system may also provide mechanisms for removing a meter from a test container and reattaching it to a new one using one of several coding methods that recalibrate the meter for the new container of test strips. Alternatively, the system may include an auto-calibration system where data is provided individually on each individual test medium in a form readable by the test meter. The carried data may include an embedded code relating to data particular to that individual strip. The data is presented so as to be read by a meter associated with the diagnostic test strip in order to avoid manually inputting the information. In addition, the system may further provide mechanisms to reconfigure the meter to perform a new function when it has been determined that a triggering event has occurred.

  • Publication number: 20120226638
Abstract: The invention relates to a security container formed to receive a cassette which visually indicates to a user what type or style of good is contained therein. The cassette may be of a general solid block type in one color or having one visual characteristic, or the cassette may have multiple inserts or slides which may be moved within the cassette to change the outwardly facing color or visible characteristic. The invention furthermore relates to a merchandising system and method for paring the appropriate security device with the correct high-theft piece of merchandise and for return of a previously used security device to the correct department of a retail establishment. In some configurations, a scan device can be used to scan a product and then display a color label associated with a security device to be used with that product.

  • Publication number: 20120050042
Abstract: The invention relates to an anti-theft device primarily for securing articles of goods. In the preferred embodiment, a main housing of the device is secured to an article by way of a cable having two ends, whereby each end is inserted into the housing to form a loop around the article. Each end of the cable is secured to the housing by internally disposed locking nuts which allow the insertion of the end into the main housing, but prevent its removal. The device does not include a key or unlocking mechanism. A user must unscrew or cut the security device off the article once it is applied.

  • Publication number: 20090092292
Abstract: A hand-held iris scanner, used for identifying individuals, has a visor mechanism connected to the main body of the scanner via a hinged attachment. The visor mechanism can be folded and locked into an extended position, wherein the free-floating end of the visor (that is, the non-hinged end) provides a contoured surface against which a user may place his or her forehead. By placing the forehead against the visor, the user automatically positions their eyes within a field of view of the scanner optics, and at a substantially optimum distance for correctly focused imaging by the scanner optical system. The visor mechanism may also be folded and locked into a second position wherein the bulk of the visor is substantially flush with the main body of the scanner, allowing for compact storage. An optional cap attachment on the visor provides a cover mechanism to protect the scanner optics when the scanner is not in use.

  • Patent number: 7039443
Abstract: A wireless communication device (100) employs a method and apparatus for automatically initiating a communication with a target device. The communication device includes, inter alia, a user interface (115), an acoustic transducer (113), and an acoustic receptor (109). The user interface receives an identification of the target device (e.g., a telephone number) from a user while the communication device is configured in a first physical or mechanical configuration of at least two user-selectable configurations. Responsive to detecting a reconfiguration of the communication device from the first configuration (e.g., closed) into a second configuration (e.g., open), the communication device automatically initiates the communication with the target device, thereby eliminating the need for manual call initiation after the communication device is properly positioned for in-call use.
