Abstract: An integrated gaming and media experience is disclosed, including television viewing on a gaming console. A client component is installed via a bootstrap process that uses authentication information to accomplish this task. Once installed, it integrates itself into a typical gaming display. Various console hardware details are used to enable communication between the client component and downstream servers providing the content. Once up and running, the client component allows users to watch television as if they were interacting with a set-top box. Users may switch between various applications on the gaming console, including but not limited to game titles, DVR, VOD, DVD programs, and so on.

In one example, a method of generating a playlist comprising a list of media items comprises receiving a request to generate a playlist from a selected text, obtaining identification information for one or more items of media information within the selected text, and generating the playlist with a list of media items identified from the one or more items of media information within the selected text.

Abstract: A method for normalizing data for a user interface on an on-demand basis includes receiving data in a first format, and comparing the first format to a standard format. The method further includes receiving a request to present a first subset of the data but not a second subset of the data. Responsive to receiving the request to present the first subset of the data, if the first format is different from the standard format, the method further includes transforming the first subset of the data from the first format to the standard format without transforming the second subset of the data from the first format to the standard format. The method also includes presenting the first subset of the data with the standard format.

Abstract: A system is described that is specifically adapted for use in a resource-constrained set-top box environment. The system uses an interpreter-based common language runtime (CLR) that is specifically configured for use in the set-top box environment. The system also includes a unique application manager and UIpane manager that are specifically configured for use in the set-top box environment. The application manager pauses a current application when another application presents a user interface presentation which interferes with the current application's user interface presentation. In addition, the system includes graphics functionality for providing transitions effects, for allowing a user to change color palette and resolution, and so forth. The graphics functionality directly uses the graphics capabilities of the set top box (such as the set top box's line control register) whenever possible to enable applications to execute more quickly.
