Publication number: 20140179221Abstract: The system of the present invention includes a conductive element, an electronic component, and a partial power source in the form of dissimilar materials. Upon contact with a conducting fluid, a voltage potential is created and the power source is completed, which activates the system. The electronic component controls the conductance between the dissimilar materials to produce a unique current signature. The system can also measure the conditions of the environment surrounding the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 21, 2013Publication date: June 26, 2014Inventors: Adam Whitworth, Mark Zdeblick

Patent number: 8018409Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for optimizing LED driver efficiency. The present invention offers low cost solutions for powering LEDs while minimizing overall power dissipation in devices powered by a depletable power source. Low system cost is attained using a charge pump to increase LED drive voltage level and implementing combinations of drive techniques to overcome the inefficiency of the charge pump. A switch bypasses the charge pump when depletable power source output voltage is sufficient to directly drive an LED load. At certain output voltage levels, the switch can be opened causing the charge pump to boost drive voltage. The output voltage may also be PWM modulated to drive the LED load and, at some voltages, the depletable power source may drive the LED load directly. Efficiency levels of 90-97% are attainable.Type: GrantFiled: January 20, 2009Date of Patent: September 13, 2011Assignee: Analog Devices, Inc.Inventors: Michael Evans, Adam Whitworth

Publication number: 20110022113Abstract: Methods and systems for programming a plurality of leads under at least two distinct modalities are provided. The leads may be grouped within satellites and multiple satellites may be configured within a single lead. Each lead includes a power and communications bus providing commands, and information and pulses to the satellites. The leads may be connected to at least two different command and pulse sources, optionally a cardiac pacemaker and/or a cardiac pulse analyzer system. A command may include or be preceded by a wake-up pulse that facilitates identification of a modality applicable to the associated command and data. A command may further optionally include a reference pulse or series of reference pulses, whereby the satellite references data pulses in relation to one or more aspects of the associated reference pulse. A data pulse may deliver two bits of information.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2009Publication date: January 27, 2011Inventors: Mark Zdeblick, Lawrence Arne, Nilay Jani, Haifeng Li, Jonathan Withrington, Benedict J. Publication number: 20060186830Abstract: An apparatus and method for automatically controlling voltages used to drive LED loads. A battery voltage can be boosted to a selected drive voltage level connected to current sources for driving the LED loads. The drive voltage level is selected by a controller using a headroom detect component to measure a headroom voltage across the current source. The controller adjusts the drive voltage level to maintain the headroom voltage within a predetermined operating range. The drive voltage may be used to drive a variable number of LEDs or a plurality of different LED loads connected in parallel without manual readjustment of drive voltage.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2006Publication date: August 24, 2006Applicant: CALIFORNIA MICRO DEVICESInventors: Hassan Shami, Adam Whitworth
