  • Patent number: 7874103
Abstract: A gate assembly is provided for positioning in an opening through which selective entry is required. The gate assembly includes barrier means mountable directly or indirectly to one or more surrounding surfaces defining the opening. Hinge means are provided to allow the barrier means to be movable relative to the surrounding surfaces in use between a closed position, wherein the opening is closed, to an open position, wherein the opening is open. The hinge means include a hinge pin movably mounted in a channel or recess. The channel or recess receiving the hinge pin in use has a taper which narrows from an opening of said channel or recess through which said hinge pin is located in use towards a base or opposite end of said recess or channel.

  • Publication number: 20100115849
Abstract: Barrier means are provided having a frame including a plurality of frame members, movable between a first substantially erect condition and a second substantially folded condition. At least one of the frame members including two or more telescopically mounted portions capable of relative movement to allow expansion and/or contraction of the length of the frame member. Locking means are associated with one or more of said frame portions to allow the portion or portions to be locked at a required length. The locking means are movable between the locked and/or unlocked position by relative movement of the frame portion or portions with which the locking means are associated.

  • Publication number: 20100057386
Abstract: A power distribution and communication system includes nodes connected by power lines and communication links. The system receives power from one or more power sources. Each node contains at least one power port, data port and load port. Associated with each power port and load port is a port monitor for measuring current flowing into or out of the port and the voltage difference between the port outlet and ground, which measurements are passed to a processing element. The processing element and monitor analyze measured values to detect fault conditions. Upon fault condition detection, the port is disabled by opening a switch, disconnecting the port from the system voltage. The processing element receives power directly from the power line, thus receiving power from a live power line even if the associated power port is disabled allowing the processing element to enable a disabled node following a failure.

  • Publication number: 20090160927
Abstract: One or more arrays of heating elements are configured with insulating regions to prevent the dissipation of heat to unintended regions of a thermochromic substrate. Methods include printing and arranging impressions on a two-sided substrate avoiding bleeding and other problems more-commonly associated with traditional two-sided thermal printing techniques. A simple and reliable thermal printing system is provided for use in ballot marking, including several mechanisms for receiving and detecting the orientation of a substrate within a thermal printing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20090013604
Abstract: A gate assembly is provided including frame means for positioning in an opening through which selective entry is required. Barrier means are mountable on the frame means via hinge means and the barrier means are movable relative to the frame means between a closed position, wherein the opening is closed, to an open position, wherein the opening is open. An automatic closure mechanism is provided for moving the barrier means from the open position to the closed position without user intervention. The automatic closure mechanism is associated with the hinge means and includes at least one ramp or inclined surface on which at least part of the gate travels when moving between the open and closed positions.

  • Publication number: 20070075029
Abstract: A feeding bottle is provided which includes a body portion for the containment of fluid therein. At least one opening is defined in the body portion for location of a feeding teat therewith. A venting aperture is provided for allowing venting of the body portion and the venting aperture is provided with closure means. The venting aperture is in communication with air inlet means, at least part of said air inlet means being substantially flexible. The closure means are movable relative to the air inlet means between an open position, wherein the air inlet means is open, and a closed position, wherein the at least flexible part of said air inlet means flexes to close the air inlet means.

  • Patent number: 5107965
Abstract: A component for use in conjunction with a bicycle brake member or block, being arranged to contact a bicycle wheel rim in advance of the brake block as the brake is applied, so as to clean the wheel rim of water and/or dirt to improve braking performance. The component may be formed integrally with the brake block or separately for attachment thereto. The component includes a scraper element, whose end surface is arranged to contact the wheel rim. The scraper element is connected to the main body of the component by a flexible hinge portion, which allows the scraper element to flex about the hinge portion, so that as the brake is applied to bring the brake block into contact with the wheel rim, the scraper element flexes against the bias of the hinge portion to bias the scraper element into contact with the wheel rim. The scraper element, hinge portion and main body are all formed integrally of plastic material, preferably injection molded in glass-reinforced nylon.
