Patent number: 10975880Abstract: A blower for a respiratory apparatus includes an impeller configured to rotate to pressurize the supply of gas. The impeller includes a shroud with a plurality of vanes extending from a surface of the shroud toward the gas inlet. Each vane radiates outwards from a hub in the shroud that is configured to receive a motor shaft. The outer diameter of the shroud varies between maximum portions with a maximum outer diameter and minimum portions with a minimum outer diameter. The maximum portions are located at the vanes and the minimum portions are located between the vanes. In addition, each vane has an intermediate point located a predetermined distance from the hub that marks the beginning of a curvature of the vane in the direction of the impeller's rotation. The curvature of the vane is located between the intermediate point and the radially outermost end of the vane.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 2020Date of Patent: April 13, 2021Assignee: ResMed Pty LtdInventors: Adel Nibu, Johannes Nickol, Achim Biener, Johann Sebastian Burz, Bernd Christoph Lang, Saad Nasr, Robert Eibl, Andreas Kirchberger, Christian Bayer

Patent number: 10578118Abstract: A respiratory apparatus for treating a patient with a respiratory disorder includes a blower configured to generate a supply of pressurized breathable gas. The blower includes a gas inlet and a gas outlet. The gas outlet is configured to deliver the generated supply of pressurized breathable gas to an outlet of the respiratory apparatus for delivery to the patient. The blower also includes an impeller configured to rotate to generate the supply of pressurized gas. The impeller has a single shroud with a plurality of blades extending from a surface of the shroud in an upstream direction relative to the direction of flow of the pressurized breathable gas. Each of the plurality of blades radiate outwards from a hub in the shroud. The hub is configured to receive a motor shaft. In addition, the outer diameter of the shroud varies between maximum portions with a maximum outer diameter and minimum portions with a minimum outer diameter.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2016Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: ResMed Pty LtdInventors: Adel Nibu, Johannes Nickol, Achim Biener, Johann Sebastian Burz, Bernd Christoph Lang, Saad Nasr, Robert Eibl, Andreas Kirchberger, Christian Bayer

Patent number: 10016571Abstract: A hollow structure for a face mask includes an inner wall, an outer wall spaced from the inner wall to define a hollow area between the inner wall and the outer wall, and a bottom wall that couples the inner wall to the outer wall. A first portion and a second portion together define a closable opening into the hollow area. The second portion is coupled to the outer wall by a bi-stable membrane that allows the second portion to move between (1) a first, opened position in which the second portion is spaced from the first portion to allow access to the hollow area through the opening, and (2) a second, closed position in which the second position abuts the first portion to close the opening.Type: GrantFiled: October 3, 2014Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: RESMED R&D GERMANY GMBHInventors: Bernd Christoph Lang, Achim Biener, Johann Sebastian Burz, Johannes Nickol, Adel Nibu
