  • Patent number: 6848489
Abstract: A dispenser comprises a frame that supports a roll of adhesive tape, a handle, a flexible spatula for applying the cut end of the tape, and a cutting blade. The flexible spatula forms a right-angled member having a main arm and another arm which supports the cutting blade. The right-angled member is mounted so as to be rotatable between a rest position, in which the cutting blade is pressed by a spring against a protective member, and a working position, in which the cutting blade is lifted from the protective member so that serrations thereon intersect the path of the adhesive tape. This protective member has a face, on which the blade rests, and which ends in a projecting lip, forming a frontal protection for the serrations on the blade.

  • Patent number: 5626708
Abstract: A mounting mechanism for mounting a taping head in an upper bridge structure of a tape applying machine includes J-configured slots that are engaged by pin members extending from the taping head. A tape supply roll holder for holding a supply roll of tape for a lower taping head disposed on a carriage of the tape applying machine. The tape supply roll holder holds the roll of tape at a position that is viewable by the operator of the machine. A mechanical stop retains a pneumatically operable bridge structure in a raised position in the tape applying machine when the pneumatic circuit is in non-operable state. An emergency stop switch means is disposed on an upper surface of the bridge structure such that it is accessible from either side of the machine.

  • Patent number: 5564645
Abstract: An improved braking system for a rotatable roll support hub for a roll product of web material is capable of providing a smoother and progressive braking action which uses a less powerful compression spring. This can be achieved by utilizing a friction element that has frustoconical shaped friction surfaces. Specifically, the friction element comprises a frustoconical disc that floats between a similar frustoconical surface that rotates with the roll support hub and an opposite similar frustoconical surface on the pressure disc. Preferably, a rim flange is provided as part of the pressure disc that forces the friction element into wedged engagement on the frustoconical friction surface of the roll support hub. The advantages are achieved for providing a smoother progressive braking action which is applicable to any roll support hub on which a controlled braking force is desirable.

  • Patent number: 5323586
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a machine for closing and sealing an article, such as a box or carton, as it is driven through the machine. Specifically, upper and lower taping heads are provided for applying lengths of tape to the bottoms and tops of the boxes. The upper box flaps are also preferably folded by the machine of the present invention by a folding mechanism including a ski for folding the leading minor flap, a kicker for folding the trailing minor flap, and shaped rods for folding the major side flaps after the minor flaps are folded. In accordance with the present invention, the upper head assembly is advantageously adjustably connected to the machine so that proper leveling of the upper taping head and the folding mechanism can be assured. Moreover, such adjustment can be redone at any time thereafter as needed as affected by working conditions over time.

  • Patent number: 4658563
Abstract: A packaging machine, of the type comprising a bed mounted on support legs, two uprights rigidly connected to the bed and upwardly projecting therefrom, and a working head carried by the uprights. The bed comprises a rectangular box-formed sheet metal frame and two central, longitudinal, side-by-side cross-members, the constituent elements of at least part of the machine working units being mounted directly on the cross-members, and a space for housing removable roller tables being provided between these cross-members and the longitudinal sidepieces of the bed.
