Publication number: 20080213863Abstract: Disclosed is a novel application for ?-cyclodextrin (?-CD, a cholesterol depletor), and a novel technique for the creation of immunogens. Topical application of ?-CD inhibits or reduces the severity of viral outbreaks such as oral or genital herpes by disrupting lipid rafts, through which viral entry and outbreak occur. Viral entry involves virus/lipid raft interaction, wherein the virus unfolds—only in lipid rafts—to enter the cell via the lipid raft. The invention provides a technique for creating immunogens with novel viral epitopes based on the virus/lipid raft interaction and viral unfolding. This fact can be exploited to create novel immunogens based on viral interaction with lipid rafts. The virus/lipid raft co-culture technique creates novel immunogens which will be used to create novel neutralizing monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies to fight viral disease such as HIV infection.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 6, 2008Publication date: September 4, 2008Inventor: Adil Ali Khan
