  • Patent number: 8656387
Abstract: A method and a system for creating a network of virtual machines in a communication network including a head node virtual machine (VM) for distribution and processing of a workload. The head node VM is created and hosted at a server computer. The head node VM specifies the workload that is assignable into sub-tasks. A pool of physical computing devices for hosting a plurality of replica VMs is identified. The head node VM is replicated at each one of the plurality of replica VMs. The plurality of replica VMs coordinate to assign at least one workload sub-task to the each one of the plurality of replica VMs. The at least one assigned workload sub-tasks is processed at the respective each one of the plurality of replica VMs to provide at least one sub-task result. The at least one sub-task result is received at the head node VM.

  • Patent number: 8601201
Abstract: A method and system manages memory in a network of virtual machines, including a copy of a master virtual machine (VM) memory system, the copy accessible to a memory server. The method includes determining whether a memory page requested by a clone VM memory system is fetchable from the memory server, the clone VM memory system hosted in a host memory system; if the memory page is fetchable from the memory server, fetching the memory page from the memory server; determining whether there is sufficient space in the host memory system to load the memory page; if there is insufficient space in the host memory system, evicting a selected memory page from the host memory system; and loading the memory page into the host memory system and the clone VM memory system.

  • Publication number: 20110314465
Abstract: A method and a system for creating a network of virtual machines in a communication network including a head node virtual machine (VM) for distribution and processing of a workload. The method comprises creating the head node VM hosted at a server computer, the head node VM specifying the workload, the workload being assignable into sub-tasks; identifying a pool of hosts for hosting a plurality of replica VMs, each of the pool of hosts comprising a physical computing device; replicating the head node VM at an each one of the plurality of replica VMs; coordinating amongst the plurality of replica VMs to assign at least one workload sub-task to the each one of the plurality of replica VMs; processing the at least one assigned workload sub-tasks at the respective each one of the plurality of replica VMs to provide at least one sub-task result; and receiving the at least one sub-task result at the head node VM.

  • Publication number: 20100268831
Abstract: Thin client session management is described. In embodiments, a thin client device senses a usage context for the thin client device, and a process analyses the usage context to automatically select a session for the thin client device to connect to. Embodiments describe how the sensed usage context can indicate a location of the thin client device, movement of the thin client device, swapping of thin client devices or an identity of a user of the thin client device. Embodiments also describe how the thin client can be automatically authorized to access a selected session, based on the usage context. In other embodiments, a thin client device comprises a sensing device that can indicate a usage context for the thin client. Embodiments describe how the sensing device can determine that the thin client device is located in a docking station, and identify the docking station.
