  • Publication number: 20210185152
Abstract: Compression techniques can reduce the fronthaul throughput in split radio access network (RAN) architectures for next generation designs. Adaptive fixed-point mapping can reduce the throughput requirements between a baseband unit (DU) and a remote radio unit (RU). Thus, a bit or plurality of bits can indicate the type of data being passed over the fronthaul. Consequently, adaptive mapping between precoded downlink data and non-precoded downlink data suited to the type of data passed over the fronthaul can achieve high compression ratios.

  • Patent number: 11025279
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, obtaining a received channel-encoded data block having information bits, a transmitted error-check value, and redundant code bits. The redundant code bits correspond to a channel code applied to the received channel-encoded data block prior to transmission via a communication channel. A channel code type is identified and responsive to it being systematic, the information bits and the transmitted error-check value are obtained without decoding according to the channel code. The received channel-encoded data block is checked according to the transmitted error-check value to obtain a result. Responsive to the result not indicating an error, extracting the information bits without decoding the received channel-encoded data block according to the channel code. Responsive to the result indicating an error, decoding the received channel-encoded data block according to the channel code to obtain decoded information bits. Other embodiments are disclosed.

  • Patent number: 10992361
Abstract: A split radio access network is provided that efficiently transmits beamforming coefficients from a distributed baseband unit device to a remote radio unit device to facilitate beamforming at the remote radio unit. The beamforming coefficients can be determined at the baseband unit device and transmitted along with the IQ data (data to be beamformed) to the remote radio unit device. Due to the large number of antenna ports however, there can still be a very large number of coefficients to transmit, and the disclosure provides for a compressed set of coefficients that reduces the overhead signaling requirements. Instead of sending coefficients for every kth antenna port, the system can select a subset of the coefficients corresponding to a set of k antenna ports which can be used by the remote radio unit to approximate the full set of beamforming coefficients.

  • Publication number: 20210051612
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards over the air synchronization of network nodes. In general, the techniques disclosed herein can be implemented by a first base station node device and a second base station node device. A wireless backhaul connection between the base station node devices allows the first base station node device to connect to a core network via the second base station node device. The techniques disclosed herein can be implemented as a protocol including communications back and forth between the base station node devices, which enables measurement of communication delays such as propagation delays and processing delays. The base station node devices can then use the measured communication delays to better synchronize clocks used to time radio frequency transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20210022071
Abstract: Discontinuous access to unlicensed spectrum is facilitated in a new radio access environment. According an embodiment, a system can comprise performing a scanning procedure that determines whether a first subband and a second subband is available for transmission. • Publication number: 20210022038
Abstract: Facilitating energy-efficient wireless communications for advanced networks (e.g., 4G, 5G, and beyond) with low-resolution digital-to-analog converters is provided herein. Operations of a system can comprise determining first values. Respective values of the first values can be digital samples of transmission and reception chains determined based on symbols transformed from bits. The operations can also comprise facilitating a quantization of the first values resulting in second values. Facilitating the quantization can be based on a cost function associated with processing the first values. Further, the operations can comprise outputting the second values as a continuous time signal over antennas of a base station device. The second values can comprise fewer values than the first values.

  • Publication number: 20210007142
Abstract: The disclosed subject matter is directed towards a clear channel assessment procedure based on a common preamble, such as for use with 3GPP and IEEE 802.11 technologies, or any other radio technology, including for use in the 6 GHz band. Detection of the common preamble is based on detecting known sequences in signal part, which can be detected without decoding the preamble's payload (channel) part to determine an ongoing transmission's duration. If an ongoing transmission is detected, subsequent energy detection monitoring is performed to determine when transmission ends, which can use a different energy detection threshold from what is used in the initial clear channel assessment's energy detection. The technology facilitates the usage of different sampling rates by different radio technologies that work concurrently in the same unlicensed band, by correlating a received preamble with a stored preamble that accounts for deterministic distortions arising from the different sampling rates.

  • Patent number: 10833751
Abstract: Precoding coefficients can be compressed based on user equipment signal interference to noise ratio or path loss in front haul cloud radio access network systems. For example, a baseband unit can compute a precoder matrix from an estimated channel associated with an uplink signal. Once the baseband unit computes the channel, it can determine the coefficients for the linear combination of the basis vectors, which are known at the baseband unit and the radio unit as well. The baseband unit can estimate the path loss and the signal interference to noise ratio and determine the basis vectors. The baseband unit can then compress the coefficients and transmit the coefficients to the radio unit. When the radio unit receives the compressed coefficients, the radio unit can reconstruct the precoder matrix and apply to reference signals and data traffic channels.

  • Patent number: 10826578
Abstract: Precoder weights can be indicated to a carrier unit to increase network efficiency. To indicate precoder weights to the carrier unit, various types of precoding data can be used to schedule user equipment. For example, a baseband unit can compress precoding coefficients for channel state information reference signals for a remote radio unit and for a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) to reduce a signaling cost between the remote radio unit and the baseband unit. Because both the baseband unit and the remote radio unit can have access to the basis vectors the basis vectors can be multiplied by coefficients to transmit the compressed weight of the basis vectors. Thus, allowing the remote radio unit to reconstruct the basis vector for the channel state information reference signals.
