  • Patent number: 5266351
Abstract: Surface portions of metal materials, in particular artifacts which are of interest from historical, artistic or archeological perspectives, are protected from atmospheric agents and pollutants, and are re-aggregated, by reversibly applying a protecting and aggregating material comprising a copolymer of vinylidene fluoride having 55-85 mol % of vinylidene fluoride, 10-45 mol % of hexafluoropropene and 0-30 mol % of tetrafluoroethylene. Such polymers are applied onto the surface to be protected as solutions in volatile solvents.

  • Patent number: 4902538
Abstract: Process for the protection of stone materials, marble, bricks, and concrete, and of structures made from such materials, against the decay caused by atmospheric agents and pollutants, by applying to the surface of said materials or structures a mixture which is constituted by:(1) polytetrafluoroethylene in the form of a fine powder;(2) a perfluoropolyether not bearing functional groups; and/or(3) a perfluoropolyether or a fluoropolyether having a chain end, or both chain ends, constituted by functional groups which are capable of forming a chemical and/or physical bond with the material to be protected. The invention also relates to a process for preventing, on the normal materials for building industry and lining materials, the decay effects caused by writings made by using spray paits or brush paints, inks, and the like.

  • Patent number: 4824626
Abstract: A process for the reproduction of works of art made of a lithoid material including the use of a silicone rubber to obtain a negative mold of the work of art, wherein a thin layer of a fluorinated grease, based on polytetrafluoroethylene and a liquid perfluoropolyether, is first applied to the work of art.

  • Patent number: 4764431
Abstract: The surface of stone materials, of tiles, of cement mixes and articles and structures manufactured therefrom are protected against atmospheric and polluting agents by superficially applying a protecting material consisting of a vinylidene fluoride polymer or copolymer comprising 55-100% by moles of vinylidene fluoride, 0-5% by moles of propene hexafluoride and 0-30% by moles of tetrafluoroethylene. Such polymers or copolymers are applied to the surface to be protected in the form of a solution in volatile solvents.

  • Patent number: 4745009
Abstract: A process for protecting manufactured structures or articles of marble, stones, tiles, cement and the like from the action of polluting and atmospheric agents, by applying a perfluoropolyether onto the surface of the manufactured structure or article, characterized in that there is utilized a perfluoropolyether having at one or both its ends functional groups selected from carboxylic, ester or amidic groups.

  • Patent number: 4499146
Abstract: Marble, stones, tiles and articles manufactured from such materials are protected from the degrading action of atmospheric and polluting agents by applying to the surfaces of said materials and manufactured articles, a protecting agent which is a perfluoropolyether as such or diluted with a solvent or a mixture of solvents having a boiling temperature lower than 80.degree. C., preferably a fluorochlorohydrocarbon.

  • Patent number: 4451646
Abstract: Amorphous, highly viscous high molecular weight copolyethers containing in excess of 200 total repeating units and formed of --CF.sub.2 --CF.sub.2 --O-- and --CF.sub.2 --O-- repeating units randomly distributed along the chain and linked to each other either directly or through an oxygen atom, in which latter case a peroxy group is present along the chain. These copolyethers, which are useful for preparing bifunctional telomers, high molecular weight fluoropolymers, and highly stable lubricants and heat exchange materials, are prepared by reacting molecular oxygen with tetrafluoroethylene dissolved in a fluorinated or chlorofluorinated solvent selected from the group consisting of dichlorodifluoromethane, perfluorocyclobutane, perfluorodimethylcyclobutane, 1,2-dichloro-hexafluoropropane and 1,2-dichloro-tetrafluoroethane in the presence of ultraviolet radiation and under such conditions that the molar ratio of the tetrafluoroethylene to the oxygen in the reactant feed is between about 0.
