  • Patent number: 6465385
Abstract: The present invention is a new catalyst compositions and methods of making and using the same. These compositions comprise organometallic salts with large noncoordinating anions which contain at least one terminal unsaturation and the high dipole moment Zwitterions that these can isomerize into. During polymerization, the ionic pairs are dispersed within the polymer particles. The length of space separating the positive and negative end of the Zwitterion also increase as a consequence of polymerization. Additionally, polymerization proceeds without the need of a co-catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6271313
Abstract: This invention is based upon the unexpected discovery that styrene-butadiene block copolymers having syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) blocks and cis-1,4-polybutadiene (PBd) blocks can be synthesized by polymerizing styrene and 1,3-butadiene utilizing certain catalyst systems when the polymerization is conducted at a pressure which is within the range of about 10 mm of mercury to about 50 mm of mercury at a temperature which is within the range of about 0° C. to about 100° C.

  • Patent number: 5391672
Abstract: Syndiotactic polymers of alpha-olefins selected from the group consisting of 1-butene, 4-methyl-1-pentene and 4-methyl-1-hexene and a method of preparation thereof by polymerizing said olefins with catalysts obtained from specific Zr or Hf cyclopentadienyl compounds and aluminoxane compounds.

  • Patent number: 4366086
Abstract: A novel composition is provided which is suitable for use as a catalytic support which contains chlorine, bromine and magnesium. The molar ratio of bromine to chlorine is critical and ranges between about 1:99 to about 50:50, preferably between about 2.5:97.5 to about 20:80, and most preferably between about 2.5:97.5 to about 15:85. The molar ratio of magnesium to combined chlorine and bromine is not critical but generally ranges between about 1:1.6 and about 1:2.0, preferably between about 1:1.8 and about 1:2.0. The composition is obtained by reacting an organo magnesium compound with a mixture of chlorinated and brominated aluminum compounds.

  • Patent number: 4349483
Abstract: Aluminum trihydrocarbyls are prepared by reacting an organo magnesium compound with a mixture of chlorinated and brominated aluminum compounds. There is thus obtained a mixture of aluminum trihydrocarbyls and a magnesium halide containing both chloride and bromine. The aluminum trihydrocarbyls are then recovered from the mixture. They may be used in the preparation of an alpha olfin polymerization catalyst as hereinafter described.
