  • Patent number: 11139886
Abstract: A multiuser communication system comprises multiple transmitters and a multiuser receiver that detects multiple transmissions via iterative soft interference cancellation. An initial acquisition module and single user decoder module are also described. The multiuser receiver acquires and subtracts known users in the residual signal before acquiring new users in the residual signal, which is performed iteratively until no new users are detected or a stopping criterion is met. To aid receiver acquisition, the transmitters insert discrete tones into the transmitted signals. These allow the multiuser receiver to obtain initial estimates of the frequency, time, gain, and/or phase offset for each user. To improve the quality of cancellation the receiver refines estimates of gain, time, frequency and phase offsets for each user after each iteration, and calculates time varying SINR estimates for each user. The multiuser receiver may be satellite based, may be a distributed receiver, or process users in parallel.

  • Patent number: 6004468
Abstract: An apparatus for processing a solid-liquid material comprises a housing formed with a series of interconnected chambers defined by chamber walls with at least two drums mounted in series within the chambers. Each chamber receives one of the at least two drums for rotatable movement therein. Each chamber and the associated drum are dimensioned to define a region therebetween to retain the solid-liquid material. The regions of adjacent chambers communicate with each other to define a continuous passage from drum to drum through the apparatus. An inlet in the housing admits the solid-liquid material to the passage, and an outlet permits extraction of a processed solid-liquid material from the passage. Each drum rotates in a direction opposite to the adjacent drum to advance the solid-liquid material through the passage from drum to adjacent drum in a sinuous path such that the curvature of the solid-liquid material changes when passing from drum to adjacent drum.

  • Patent number: 5344575
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for extracting liquid from a humid mass. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical housing having a first and a second end wall and a cylindrical side wall. At least one inlet is provided for admitting said humid mass in the housing. A pumping system is also provided for forcing said humid mass into the inlet. A rotor has one or more pairs of side walls, which are joined to a bottom wall and define one or more channels open at their periphery in at least a portion thereof. One or more rotor side walls are provided with perforations. The rotor has a central shaft for rotation with respect to the housing, this shaft having a conduit extending longitudinally therethrough, and is provided with one or more draining conduits having a first portion in fluid communication with the perforations. One or more rotor side walls are moved upon rotation of the central shaft. The draining conduit has a second portion in fluid communication with the shaft conduit.

  • Patent number: 4534868
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and a method of extracting liquid from a humid mass by compressing same. The system comprises a conduit of linear, circular or other shape through which the humid mass is displaced. The conduit is of rectangular cross-section, which cross-section can be constant or variable. Further, the conduit has perforated side walls along at least a liquid extraction working section of the conduit. The system further comprises elements which cause an axial pressure at the interior of the humid mass as well as a mechanism to displace at least one of the perforated side walls to convey the humid mass along the working section of the conduit in such a way as to generate between the interior surface of the perforated side walls and the humid mass a dynamic friction force which defines a pressure zone which is less than the axial pressure created by the pressure creating elements.

  • Patent number: 4245431
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a delumper-sifter and a mixer used to prepare a mixture of peat and water which is placed in storage; the mixture is then passed to a forming device, is extruded in the form of continuous cylinder and is covered with a sheet of degradable paper; the covered product is cut up by means of a rotating spiral cutter, the rotational speed of which is synchronized with the speed at which the mixture emerges from the forming device, thus making it possible to obtain cylindrical extrusions of a predetermined length; the cut extrusions pass to a conveyor-distributor which arranges them in rows and then allows them to fall, in a vertical position, onto a supporting conveyor above which a drum, equipped with cylindrical protuberances, produces in the extrusions cavities in which seeds are subsequently placed and covered with sand; the final operation carried out by the apparatus is to group the seedling tubes thus produced and to wrap them in packages.
