  • Patent number: 7872529
Abstract: In accordance with one the present disclosure, systems and methods are disclosed that include transmitting a binary signal from a signal source into a switch where the switch is in series between the signal source and a first circuit element. In addition, the switch is operating substantially in a switched mode and creates a switched output signal and the switch is controlled by the binary signal. Also disclosed in this method is detecting a negative voltage in a signal from a second circuit element. In this method the first circuit element is in series between the second circuit element and the switch, and upon detecting the negative voltage from the second circuit element the first circuit element creates high impedance in the first circuit element.

  • Patent number: 7573330
Abstract: A digital power amplifier (or power switching amplifier or power switch) for use in a digital transmitter includes a low impedance multi-stage driver circuit having a low impedance pre-driver and a low impedance driver. The drive circuit drives a power switch stage having two power transistors configured in a current mode class-D push-pull configuration. Utilization of gallium nitride (GaN) transistors or pseudomorphic high electronic mobility transistors (pHEMT) (or combination thereof) and sizing the transistors progressively larger in the driver than in the pre-driver (at least about 3×) provides a reduction in output impedance of the driver circuit and progressive increases in the power driving capability of the succeeding stage. This allows the use of a power amplifier at higher frequencies without altering or affecting the power efficiency and allows use of a digital power amplifier for a digital transmitter.

  • Patent number: 7345541
Abstract: Novel uses of current-dividing multi-transistors (composite transistors) are described. The composite transistors can replace transistors in otherwise traditional circuits by making suitable design changes. Arrangements of these composite transistors in amplifiers and mixers allow easy selection of current and hence gain in circuits driven by them. In appropriate configurations, they allow the designer to dynamically select the current provided to successive stages. The invention may be used in any integrated circuit technology and assists designers in achieving effective and efficient designs.
