  • Patent number: 4842139
Abstract: A containment vessel system including a containment vessel into which a leaking fluid-containing cylinder may be quickly placed. The containment vessel is designed to withstand the pressure of the fluid and has closure means that may be quickly secured. Once the leaking cylinder is isolated within the containment vessel, the vessel may be relocated to facilities where the fluid can be properly disposed of. The vessel may be mounted to a carriage which may have wheels, and/or fork lift brackets, and/or lifting lugs to enhance its portability. The containment vessel may be conveniently carried on a cylinder transport truck to permit quick isolation of a leaking cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4788027
Abstract: A punch mechanism for remote removal of guide balls from nuclear reactor control rods, includes attachment means for attaching the punch mechanism to means for reversibly lowering the punch mechanism over the top of one of the control rods. The mechanism includes a die and cylinder means operatively connected to the die for axially moving the die in a back-and-forth direction, a die block cooperating with the die, and guide means for self-aligning the punch mechanism so that the die and the die block are automatically aligned with one of the guide balls therebetween when the punch mechanism is lowered over the top of the control rod. When the punch mechanism is lowered into aligned position, activation of the cylinder means will cause the die to advance into the die block, thereby removing the guide ball from the control rod. The punch mechanism is then remotely raised above the control rod, rotated 90 degrees, and lowered to repeat the ball removal procedure.

  • Patent number: 4757977
Abstract: An orbital pipe machine guiding system to guide the machine around the circumference of a pipe has a link chain having first and second ends and a length equal to at least the circumference of the pipe and has means to attach the link chain to itself around and against the pipe in a circle perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. At least one wheel is operatively connected to the machine, such that when the wheel is positioned for revolving engagement with the link chain, the machine will be guided in the circle defined by the link chain. In one embodiment, the wheel has a continuous slot formed therein extending radially inward from the periphery thereof, and the inside surfaces of the slot slidingly engage the link chain. Any one link chain may be used for several pipe sizes and the fastening arrangement of the link chain is such that surplus chain overlaps a portion of the chain lying against the pipe. The slot in the wheel extends far enough to accommodate such overlap.

  • Patent number: 4281459
Abstract: A hand-held nibbling tool for sheet metal or other thin material is provided with a reciprocating punch which on its upward stroke moves the metal to be chipped against a readily replaceable cutting die positioned in a die holder attached to the lower end of the tool. The tool is provided with a conventional reciprocating mechanism driven in a known manner by a conventional air or electric motor. The reciprocating punch is connected to the reciprocating mechanism by a piston rod supported for a substantial part of its length in a sleeve within the die holder. The said die holder, moreover, is provided with one or more passages extending upwardly from the die and outwardly of the die holder so as to permit the chips thrown upwardly by the action of the punch against the die to be removed from the nibbling area. The die itself has an internal opening cooperating with the aforesaid passages.

  • Patent number: 4252481
Abstract: A rotary cutting tool is formed in the shape of a wheel in which the spokes extend arcuately and downwardly to a central hub with the lower edge of these spokes having a cutting edge formed thereon or attached thereto. The spokes in addition to extending downwardly in the direction of the workpiece are curved in the vertical direction to form an upwardly slanting surface along which the material sheared off by the cutting edge may ride and be discharged between the spokes. The hub of the tool is connected to a shaft which may be rotated by a hand-held electric drill or similar device.

  • Patent number: 4143862
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting welding or otherwise working pipes, plates and the like, in which a tool is mounted for rotatable movement at an angle to the surface of the workpiece. The tool is carried by a carriage which slidably supports a bracket having a first arm and a second arm. Both arms have optical scanners at one end. One scanner senses the angle the carriage is to be rotated around the pipe and the other the amount of rotation of the tool that determines the angle of attack of the tool relative to the work piece. The scanners sense profile curves, drawn to the desired shape of the surface to be cut, determining the linear movement of the tool and the angle of rotation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4064771
Abstract: An attachment for a pneumatic impact wrench is mounted between the wrench and socket tool which fastens a nut or bolt in an assembly. The attachment controls automatically the torque applied to the nut or bolt by providing a cylindrical housing with a sliding member. The sliding member is positioned within the cylindrical housing by an extension engaging a circular groove in the socket tool, the groove being of such a depth as to be proportional to the size of the nut or both being fastened. The sliding member controls the amount of compressed air supplied to the drive motor of the impact wrench by closing off or opening the inlet and outlet for the compressed air provided in the cylindrical housing.
