  • Publication number: 20110255464
Abstract: A high capacity satellite communications system including a satellite with a beam for a forward downlink focused on a geographic area for which disproportionately higher capacity is desired, a hub located in a geographic area for which disproportionately lower capacity is desired, compared to the location of a VSAT, and the VSAT located in area where a beam for a forward downlink received by the VSAT from the satellite does not overlap with a beam for a return downlink received by the hub from a satellite.

  • Publication number: 20090285150
Abstract: An approach provides a satellite air interface to efficiently support communication with a terrestrial network. One or more packets associated with a data communication session are received from a terrestrial network configured to provide cellular communications. A frame representing the packet for transmission is generated over a satellite link to a user terminal. Signaling information for the transmission of the packet over the terrestrial network is modified or eliminated for transmission over the satellite link.

  • Patent number: 7305408
Abstract: A system for cross attribute analysis for sales data in a multi-dimensional planning system. The system includes a set of processing modules that performs cross attribute analysis and manipulation in online analytical processing (OLAP) and multi-dimensional planning applications by dimension splitting. A number of processing module are utilized to perform the required processing. The system includes a hierarchy processing module for aggregating data up a hierarchical data structure, a dimension splitting module for creating pseudo-hierarchical data structures from data within the hierarchical data structure, and a multi-dimensional data viewing module for displaying a set of multi-dimensional data set according to the hierarchical data structure in a multi-dimensional spreadsheet. A single dimension corresponds to an attribute of the data contained within the hierarchical data structure.

  • Publication number: 20070041270
Abstract: The level sensor arrangement comprises a paddle directly driven by a stepping or stepper motor to rotate in use unless the paddle is arrested in use by a material level, the arrangement including a sensor to determine paddle rotation and the sensor providing a signal to a controller indicative of paddle rotation.

  • Publication number: 20060045038
Abstract: A satellite-based communications network employing at least one satellite and a plurality of user terminals adapted for use with the communications network. The network includes a transmitter for transmitting data to the plurality of user terminals, where the data includes a plurality of broadcast modes and/or services. The transmitter transmits data in a packetized format in which a predetermined number of data packets are transmitted in a frame, where the frame is defined as a predetermined period of time. Further, the transmitter transmits each of the plurality of broadcast modes utilizing a single carrier frequency. Each of the plurality of user terminals includes a receiver for receiving the transmitted data and for regenerating the data so that the data is made available to a device coupled to the user terminal.

  • Patent number: 5974092
Abstract: A method and system for alerting a mobile terminal in a high-attenuation propagation environment within a mobile satellite communication network are disclosed herein. The method comprises receiving an incoming call directed to the mobile terminal, generating a paging signal in response to the incoming call, determining whether the mobile terminal has failed to receive the paging signal, and generating an alerting signal in response to the determination that the mobile terminal has failed to receive the paging signal.

  • Patent number: 5790940
Abstract: A method and system for adjusting the transmission power of a transmitter during a communication with a receiver in a mobile satellite communication system is disclosed herein. The method comprises establishing at least one threshold signal strength value for a transmitted burst; measuring the received signal strength of the burst received by the receiver; comparing the received signal strength with the threshold value; and setting a power control bit based on the comparison.

  • Patent number: 5781540
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and a method for communicating in a mobile communication system. The method provides a carrier signal having a plurality of frames. Each frame has a plurality of time slots, and each time slot comprises a plurality of transmission bits. A group of time slots are assigned to a communication channel. A traffic burst signal having a plurality of traffic symbols is transmitted over the communication channel by transmitting a first preamble over one of the assigned time slots, and transmitting a second preamble and at least one of the traffic symbols over at least one of the other assigned time slots. The second preamble occupies fewer transmission bits than the first preamble.
