  • Patent number: 5341595
Abstract: An environmental day-lit chamber for plant growth analysis having therein a growth chamber with a perforated or slotted plant supporting floor for allowing air to be forced vertically through the plant space. The transparent and frameless exterior of the chamber shell allows equalized distribution of sunlight with minimal impedance into the growth chamber. A vertical surface at the rear of the plant growth chamber forms a return air plenum for ducting air through the growth chamber and back to an air conditioning compartment beneath the growth chamber for reconditioning the air. A gasketed door at the front of the chamber shell provides reach-in capacity for entry into the plant growth chamber and expedites the ability to sealing close the growth chamber upon completion of operations therein.

  • Patent number: 4183224
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and apparatus for precise temperature and humidity control within a confined or determined chamber. Essentially, the method involves determining a desired condition in a controlled space. The essence of the concept is to provide humidity control by the addition of moisture at all operating conditions and, in effect, never having to control dehumidification. Hence, the system is much more controllable than previous approaches, which as a result achieves energy conservation. In addition, the method for heating or cooling is to insure that the heating or cooling does not affect the humidity, but that humidity is added after all the desired temperature relationships are achieved, which enables the system to eliminate control into the dehumidification mode. Further, the process includes a higher air flow rate than normally utilized, all of which improves the precision of the humidification and temperature control process.

  • Patent number: 4084570
Abstract: A fireplace closure device having both safety and decorative features is provided for mounting on the front of various sized masonry fireplaces. Fundamentally, the device comprises a plurality of laterally hinged slats with tapered pins being provided to hold the slats against the frame when closed such that the fireplace opening is sealed. A storage box, integral with the closure device frame, is included to store the hinged slats in such a manner as to permit use of the fireplace when the device is stored without obstructing the view from the adjacent living space or interfering with the addition of combustible materials to the fire or the use of common fireplace tools.
