  • Patent number: 7321614
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for selecting a transmit power level and subcarrier modulation assignments based on measured channel conditions to achieve a performance level for communications over a symbol-modulated subcarrier communication channel are provided. In some embodiments, the transmit power level may be changed depending on whether a desired packet error rate and/or a desired link data rate can be achieved based on selected subcarrier modulation assignments and a selected transmit power level.

  • Patent number: 7305237
Abstract: Channel access techniques are provided for use in a high throughput wireless network that utilizes multiple wireless channels within a single service set.

  • Publication number: 20070274246
Abstract: A reliable multicast for a power saving protocol such as IEEE 801.11n is described. A TSPEC frame is modified to carry the multicast address, which address can be represented in a short-hand form with, for instance, and AID. During the downlink times, the AID may also be used to identify the multicast downlink allocation in a PSMP frame.

  • Patent number: 7203858
Abstract: A method may include sampling a receive frequency at which information received over a communication link is played. The method may also include sampling a system frequency related to the communication link and computing a first value based on the sampled receive frequency and the sampled system frequency. A second value may be received via the communication link. The receive frequency may be adjusted based on the first value and the second value.

  • Patent number: 7200374
Abstract: Aggregate throughput may be improved in a wireless network by rejecting packets that have a low probability of creating harmful interference within a wireless device. In at least one embodiment, a minimum received interference power level that is likely to cause a loss of packets is first estimated. Subsequently received packets that have a received signal strength below the minimum level may then be rejected.

  • Patent number: 7197315
Abstract: A method and apparatus to select a channel of operation for a wireless network device may examine channels supported by the device to gather information regarding present use of the channels. A best channel may be determined for the wireless network device by identifying a channel that maximizes a predetermined performance metric.

  • Patent number: 7072652
Abstract: An apparatus and a system, as well as a method and article, may operate to receive a request associated with a specification at a first access point, and to locate a second access point capable of supporting the specification. A handoff from the first access point to the second access point may be effected.

  • Publication number: 20040240402
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, an access point may provide multiple access to a single medium by providing time division multiple access to the medium. During a first phase to communicate with devices of a first type, the access point may transmit a beacon to indicate to devices of a second type not to communicate during the first phase. During a second phase to communicate with devices of the second type, the access point may transmit a beacon to indicate to devices of the first type not to communicate during the second phase. In one particular embodiment, the access point may transmit a medium reservation packet to indicate reservation of the medium for affected devices. Phases may be adaptively extended by transmitting additional medium reservation packets until it is desired to end the present phase and transition to the second phase.
