  • Patent number: 7797618
Abstract: A method (700) and apparatus (600) are described for performing parallel decoding in connection with 2M-1 parallel ACS unit in ACS unit (110), track buffer (112) and voting unit (114) in an Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) receiver having a parallel trellis decoder for decoding a message sequence encoded according to a convolutional code. Outputs from the track buffer can be input to a voting unit (114) where a voting scheme can be applied and a decision rendered as to the originally transmitted message sequence.

  • Patent number: 7724783
Abstract: A method is provided for receiving a data frame in an ultrawide bandwidth network. In this method, a device receives an ultrawide bandwidth signal containing a data frame. The device then performs an acquisition operation during a first preamble in the data frame, and identifies a marker after the first preamble that indicates that the first preamble has ended. After this, the device performs a signal processing operation during a second preamble in the data frame. After the training, the device then receives a header in the data frame, and then receives a payload in the data frame. By having a marker between the two preambles, this method provides a receiving device with critical information regarding the timing of the preamble section of a frame.

  • Patent number: 7664212
Abstract: A apparatus (700) and method (600) are presented for preventing glitches and data loss in an Digital Base Band (DBB) portion (110) of an Ultra Wideband (UWB) receiver. a first and a second recovered clock (111, 112) and an external clock (109) can be input to a switch (116). Logical rules (490) can be used to determine conditions under which to hold the state of an output clock (310, 320) based on the states of a first clock (410, 420, 430, 440) and a second clock (450, 460, 470, 480) and the state of a switch request signal (312). In addition to holding the state of the output clock, a first data stream (501) associated with the first clock and a second data stream (502) associated with the second clock can be synchronized such that when switching from the first to the second clock no data loss will be experienced in the data stream.

  • Patent number: 7489723
Abstract: A method (800) is provided of processing a wireless signal (105) at a receiving device (125). The method includes: receiving the wireless signal at the receiving device; performing an acquisition process (820, 830) to determine a phase estimate for the wireless signal; adjusting the phase estimate by a correction value (840) after performing the acquisition process; and performing a tracking process (860) to maintain accuracy in the phase estimate, after adjusting the phase estimate.

  • Patent number: 7458008
Abstract: A method (700) and apparatus (600) are described for performing decision voting in connection with a parallel ACS unit (110) and track buffer (112) in an Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) receiver having a parallel DECODER for decoding a message sequence encoded according to a convolutional code. Outputs from the track buffer can be input to a voting unit (620) where a voting scheme can be applied and a decision rendered as to the originally transmitted message sequence.

  • Patent number: 7434148
Abstract: A method (700) and apparatus (600) are described for performing 2M?1 parallel ACS operations to generate 2M path metric outputs and buffering the 2M path metric outputs in connection with a track buffer (112) in an Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) receiver for decoding a message sequence encoded according to a convolutional code. Contents of the track buffer are updated in accordance with Register Exchange and outputs from the track buffer can further be input to a voting unit (114) where a voting scheme can be applied and a decision rendered as to the originally transmitted message sequence.

  • Patent number: 7212799
Abstract: A method is provided for fast acquisition in a wireless network. This method involves receiving a first wireless signal at a receiving device, sent from a transmitting device; determining a first transmitting clock phase of the transmitting device by performing first acquisition and tracking processes on the first wireless signal; storing the first transmitting clock phase in the receiving device; receiving a second wireless signal at a receiving device, sent from the transmitting device after the first wireless signal; and determining a second transmitting clock phase of the transmitting device by performing a second acquisition process on the second wireless signal using the first transmitting clock phase as starting phase data. By using the stored first transmitting clock phase information as a starting point for acquisition, the receiving device can perform a second acquisition process that is much faster than a blind acquisition.
